I always wear a helmet for my foiling activities, mainly winging and Foil Assist surf.

dmcfins.com.au/products/dmc-soft-surf-helmet-v3

Ive been using DMC soft shell helmets for several seasons as they are very comfortable, lightweight, cover my ears but don't block sound and so far have offered good protection for the occasional bumps from my board, foil etc.
Today was messy, onshore slop, but I went our for a FoilAssist to gain more experience in "less than ideal conditions" On my second wave I stalled getting up as I ran into the back of a wave and I fell off to the side of the board, so not really moving through the water at all. I whacked my cheek pretty hard on something as I fell into the water and I put my hand to the spot to check for blood. No blood, but I knew I was going to be getting a big bruise so I finished my battery for the session and headed back to the car. A guy walking on the beach stopped me to ask about my backpack setup and then said "mate, you've got a pretty big cut on your cheek.."..

..." Yep, I know Im going to check it out in the car mirror now..."

OK, looks like Ive been whacked by the foil on my cheek, just next to where the helmet cheekpad ends....
So its got me thinking about a helmet with a bit more protection for my face, not just my head...
Apart from the SIMBA Sentinel are there any other helmets offering protection to the cheeks/face?
I dont want a hard plastic bucket helmet like the GATH (or Simba) as these can scoop water and put a big load on your neck when you hit the water at speed (winging)
Does anyone have pics of the Oakley WTR ICON helmet actually fitted on a person ?

My oneoceansports mast and code adapter is rock solid, I recently upgraded to a titanium one.

Titanium what? Im looking at the SSS 84 for my CODE and still have my alloy Stringy adapter, but it has corroded a bit and I was never really 100% comfortable with the shallow threads for the M6 fuse bolts

G'day Cameron.

Cheers for the response. I'm very interested in the backpack idea, I was initially looking at the duotone or foil dash product just to get the battery pack out from under the board, but i understand there is a runtime trade off with the duotone and a safety/reliability(?) trade off with the foil dash. What assist are you running on the backpack?

Manta EVO
currently running 2 x Air batteries in the backpack, so just under 400Wh
Manta have a 655Wh battery coming early next year (so similar to the newly released FoilDrive Max+) so I’ll get 2 of those batteries. That will give me the option to run a single 655Wh in the backpack and then do a battery swap for a seriously long session. Or put both 655s on a board for a 2 hour+ efoil
A big differentiator with Manta is the ability to run a very wide range of battery configurations from just one base unit with the ability to airline travel with a heap of 97Wh batteries (by separating the 197Wh Air battery into its 2 components)
So 194, 388, 655, 849 and 1310 Wh combos are achievable with a single EVO system.

Will

I have the Duotone Midfish and it is a fantastic board......
5'2" @ 38 litres, Im 6' and 88Kgs
However, I use a backpack based assist, so the signal connection is 100% reliable and fault free.
If I use my assist in the board mounted position (like a standard FoilDrive setup) then the signal is 99% non existent and Id need to get signal windows in the board and tracks
After using the backpack solidly for the past 4 months, I went out on a trench board with my assist board mounted and it felt like I was driving a truck...only did the one session then came in and swapped back to the backpack system.

The Cloud IX AquaKeel looks to be a great option if you don't want to go trench board, Im looking forward to trying one at Merimbula in November.
