Hey, time for an update on this repair/restoration job.
Turned out much of the deck was kind of soft once I got the whole deck pad off. The pad was just masking it. So I ended up doing a lot of expanding foam injection which worked really well. I bought some two part marine stuff you mix yourself. Also replaced the foam core, divinycell and carbon fibre in the nose and added a few large carbon fibre reinforcement patches in high er stress areas of the deck. I was going to just give it a simple plain job but then my son decided he wanted to do a custom paint job so I let him put his artistic talent to work and it turned out really nice.
I bought a new sheet of EVA deck pad on Amazon (Oceanbroad brand) and the self adhesive turned out to be really strong. We’ve been using the board since June and so far so good. Board is solid and has been stiffened right up with little weight gain and everything’s holding up.
I know it sounds like an enormous amount of work and material for an older board but I was off recovering from a knee replacement so I had lots of time to kill and it would have been a lot pricier to buy a similar new or newer board. Plus we all like how this board handles, so I think it was worth the trouble….
