For anyone starting with short-wave and marine communications, I’d treat it as a useful listening supplement rather than an emergency system. A basic marine VHF course is a great first step: practise channel 16 and the working channels, correct call signs, DSC basics, and the local regulations. I’ve also found academIA helpful for keeping a structured study plan and revising navigation/radio topics. It made the theory much easier to retain.
