The harness is the bit of kit I spend the most time pondering over/trying as it the bit of kit which is up close and personal taking most of the load.
Go to a shop, try out as many harnesses as you can hanging your weight of them for as long as you can, don't be afraid to try kiting harnesses as they quite often offer more support and it's easy enough to change over the hook to a windsurfing one.

There's quite a few people who sail from Novara, parking on Dampier Rd just west of Janice Ave, there's generally a blue trailer there when the wind is blowing

The extension numbers are a guide, if you have found the correct rigging downhaul and you have 4cm extra, then shorten your extension next time.
It is also possible that you are under down hauling your sail which is quite common.
The extra height at the bottom of the sail is only an issue for race sails for closing the gap. The critical height (boom) is set by yourself.
