I have still my foildrive plus. I always was nearly pulling the trigger for the new system. But I am happy, that I didn’t upgrade.
I have the foil box at my back.so no resistance and weight under the board. I can solder my own batteries, which is cheap. I use it now very rarely. With mordern foils and boards and pumptechnique I rarely need the assist of foildrive. But foildrive give me an short cut to get to the point where I am now. I learned pumpfoiling at my lokal river. Now I am close to beachstart my pumpfoil. I can already start from an submerged rock. I started to learn Paddel outs. With parawing there is an another assist to get on foil. I think I don't need any more my foildrive. I didn't used it for more than 12 month. My conclusion is: for a beginner it is a great toy to get in the world of foiling. A cheap second hand foil drive is enough.
I will keep my foil drive. If wind is calm without gust, a boost can be very welcome. Or if I want to do parawing with my sinkerboard 12 liters in 10 knots, foildrive is for me the only way.
As already said, if you have nice swell with little winds, foildrive is a great thing.
