I guess the waves that are close to me are generally pretty gnarly, it’s not often that they’re that small.
Casso also said that he preferred the ‘up’ even in small waves and found it turned better.
My Smik went nuts in smaller stuff with the twin fins and Creek said that the Up also worked great as a twin. So I kind of leaned in that direction.
If my local beach was smaller or crumblier, I’d have gone for a hipster twin I reckon

I got a ghost 8’1x 28 x 98l to accompany my 8’2 x 29 x 107l spitfire.

here are some pics to show them side by side. Very interesting, close but also quite different volume, contours and rails etc.

the Ghost is thinner throughout, but thicker in the tail and not a pin. It also have deeper and more pronounced double / vee where the ghost has very subtle bottom contours.

i had a little flatware paddle on the ghost today it was surprisingly comfortable, and stable. It honestly felt really easy to stand on. A true test will be in the waves, but felt effortless! Didn’t quite expect that for those dimensions.

Thanks Creek- so it’s the ‘snappiness’ rather than a smoother release which is the main reason of the squash vs going round / pin.

pretty awesome little clips, I’m looking forward to the others 😊

Thanks for sharing Creek. The question I’d still love to know from Bert is why the ghost up has a square/squash tail instead of a pin / rounded pin if it’s made for bigger waves?
