Can someone explain in simple terms how a sailmaker goes about designing a sail to match a specific mast curve (or is it the other way round). Are things really as finely tuned as they sound, and does it matter? Makes me wonder how they managed in the early days - rigs worked okay back then, presumably without all the current high tech matching ... cut it to the right length (with a few feet of the tip exposed for small sails!) and make it stiffer than a One Design. I don't know, just asking ...
