Only because the 5.9 is too big. I have North Wave Clears in 5.3, 4.7, 4.2 & 3.7. I almost never use the 5.3.

I weigh 85 kg and often sail on lakes in unstable winds of around 12 knots, using the 5.9 sail with the Slingshot. I also use the 5.9 in winds of 18 knots and up with the Freestyle Wave board. I use this sail frequently because it remains very stable as the wind picks up while providing plenty of power in lighter winds.

Thank you thedoor. I’ve owned a 5.3 Icon and a 4.7 Blacktip. The 5.3 was almost redundant with the 5.9 (if I want less power from the 5.9, I switch to a 4.00m mast). Initially, I was thinking of getting a 5.0 Blacktip (or evoq) to bridge the gap between the 4.2 and the 5.9. I think that’s still a solid choice, especially since I use these sails with my JP Freestyle Wave 103. But the suggestion to go for a 4.8 Severne might actually be the better move?

Hello everyone, I’m new to this forum, which seems very active! I’m French and I sail in Normandy—both at sea and on lakes near Paris where conditions often range from 10 to 14 knots. I have a Slingshot Wizard 114 with a Phantasm 730 foil. I use Simmer sails: an Icon 5.9 and a Blacktip 4.2. Which sail would you recommend to fill the gap between them?
