Onshore test of S2Maui Venom '22 8.2 rigged on prototype MDM mast. The (huge!!!) cam rotation issues that this sail shows when rigged on its original mast are completely gone. Plus, the sail shows correct shape so that performance is expected to be fine on the water. This 460/25/62/77 MDM mast has been produced by one of the largest manufacturers of carbon mast, an established provider of many sailmaker brands. Please note that the mast is theorically way out of spec re. the original mast. My conclusion is that rotation issues with this sail brand and model are not due to the IMCS mast flex specs, and neither are to excessive cam pressure on the mast base (actually, I added shims to the lower cams). From what I can understand, those issue are due to the peculiar shape of its original mast (and of many SDM masts of similar specs available today), with abrupt diameter variation around 60 - 80 cms up from the base. This probably determines excessive stiffness in the lower part of the mast base, which in turn locks the lower cams from rotating. MDM masts instead have regula diameter flow from the bottom up, with no "bottleneck" or "drop shape".
