Video documents the initial tests of the Warp drive fins V1-V3. Youtube now has automatic subtitles. I'm not sure if these are useful or not for someone with my accent so for this video I left them on and in the previous video turned them off. Hit me in the comments if you like/dislike them. Basic concept was to emulate a windsurf sail with a stiff mast down the leading edge and a flexible foil that can adapt/morph to the changing conditions. The motivation is to try and reduce the lift or load to zero at the fin tip in order to eliminate the tip vortex. The reasoning and motivation is attempted to be explained here https://youtu.be/FluvUlrrpsc V1 had 50% of the fin span made from flexible TPU and filled with flexible epoxy but had carbon stiffeners through roughly mid chord of flexible portion V2 same as V1 with no carbon stiffeners other than mast V3 had around 75% of span flexible from max lift point on fin. V1 and V2 performed really well with two sailors. V3 was a dog. Most likely from too soft a mast. V4 is built and has active warping but based on V3 testing is likely to suffer from too soft a mast. V5 has much stiffer mast but a totally different build concept in order to try to morph the fin foil profile for each tack. Many further versions are planed There is little wind to test these fins at present and any wind we have is frontal meaning it is very hard to do comparisons as wind is usually short lived and brutal. Not mentioned in video but similar experiments were going on above water on sail side but decided not to include here.
