I put together this video to practice video editing and to demonstrate the reality of (me) winging overpowered in 30 - 40kts ⇒ LOTS OF WIPE-OUTS. Apparently, I need to do a better job keeping my foil under the water as breaching was the eventual cause of most of my wipe-outs. I didn’t realize how often it was responsible until I watched the footage in slow motion which I’ve reproduced here for your enjoyment. Fortunately, I’ve been able to fix this somewhat in my subsequent sessions. I am so stoked to have been able to experience this day’s wind and wave power. The forecast called for strong wind and cooler air, although the sun was shining and the water was holding its warmth from the fall. It’s unreal what is possible in these conditions, for example, big-airs and windsurf-style water starts. The power made launching a breeze and enabled lofty jumps. I’m pretty sure I broke 10ft, although my watch stopped recording midway through so I can’t be certain. While I was overpowered in gusts, which were non-stop, I was able to spill-off the excess by extending my harness lines. Better yet, I was able to practice downwinding. A followup video featuring highlights is in the works. Highlights aside, what’s left is a sequence of 14 wipe-outs. Check them out and have a laugh ;) Hope you enjoy the video. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments, and especially if you have advice on how to avoid and/or recover from breaching. Enjoy the learning process.
