Join us for the first episode of a six-part series as we begin the restoration of 'Odette', a remarkable 100-year-old sailing dinghy designed by renowned British yacht designer Morgan Giles. Odette is a traditional wooden clinker-built boat, and this restoration is all about using traditional boatbuilding methods, hand tools and time-honoured craftsmanship to bring her back to life. And, as always, there’s plenty of humour, workshop banter and the sort of moments that our audience has grown to know and enjoy.In this first episode, we find Odette, carry out an initial survey and begin to uncover exactly what we have taken on. We scrape away years of old varnish, turn the dinghy over and start work on the underside of the hull.But restoring an old wooden boat is also about understanding its history. Our search for information about Odette leads us to experts who help uncover more about her origins, construction and past.
