America's Cup Race 2 - at 12 noon CET (11am GMT) 6am US EC 3am PST, 10pm AEST, 12 midnight NZ time

Sure he is has inherited billions and is used to getting his way, but it seems that Ernesto Bertarelli's judgement might be a tad impaired as he sails into the match point race against Larry Ellison's BMW Oracle, in race 2 of the 33rd America's Cup campaign.

While Ellison and his Challenger campaign CEO Russell Coutts decided they need to get off the trimaran in the interests of winning race one, Bertarelli has taken what some would say is a more egotistical approach.

While he's an experienced catamaran sailor many question the wisdom of Bertarelli helming the 90 foot catamaran Alinghi during the technical challenging starting sequence ahead of the very experienced match race Ed Baird and then driving during the race ahead of French multihull legend Loick Peyron.

In Race One Bertarelli, entering from the port pin without rights was sucked into a pre-start penalty by Oracle's very experienced match racing helmsman James Spithill, on starboard and then appear to be less able to keep the catamaran flying ahull during critical parts of the 40 mile race and then badly mucked up his penatly turns and line crossing.

Bertarelli was asked in Friday's post race media conference whether he was thinking about standing aside for Baird in the pre-start and Peyron in the race...

Eyebrows went skywards as he answered 'There's no reason to change the crew, everybody did a good job. Of course we would have liked to have done a better job. but we'll be pretty much unchanged,'

Hmmm... It seems the Alinghi syndicate owner, who is rumoured to have blocked every attempt by his syndicate managers to reach some legal battle midground with the BMW Oracle Racing team, is willing to go down with his ship.

Its certain going need something close to a miracle or equipment failure for the Alinghi team to come back from what was really around a 10 minute trouncing into race one.
