Australia's Royal Perth Yacht Club has redesigned and expanded its Crawley marina on the Swan River in the last year, and it is so far living up to expectations, according to its construction company, HEB Construction in New Zealand.

The upgrade has increased the number of berths to 490 and now accommodates vessels up to 30m (98ft) in length.

With 17 sections, measuring 4m x 20m, the SF 400 Concrete Floating Breakwaters frame the outer perimeter of the marina. They are made from reinforced concrete and styrofoam for strength, stability and buoyancy.

Eight 15m (49ft) all-concrete SF Marina Fingers provide secure docking.

Royal Perth Yacht Club, in the riverside suburb of Crawley is home to Western Australia's largest active sailing fleet as well as its most prestigious yacht club.

Formed in 1841 by a core group of keen sailors, just ten years later, across the other side of the world, similarly focused sailors began a regatta that would become significant to the RPYC almost 150 years later.

In 1983 RPYC members audaciously snatched America's Cup victory from the New York Yacht Club, a stunning achievement that set in motion a chain of events that would see the city of Fremantle totally revamped and much of Australia suddenly taking an interest in sailing.
