IOTA, the organiser of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, has confirmed that due to circumstances beyond its control, it has been forced to cancel the Spanish Grand Prix.

'Despite all our efforts and numerous attempts to maintain the running of the 2009 Class 1 Spanish Grand Prix, which was due to be held in Alicante on 7 June, we have, regrettably, been forced to cancel the race, having had to accept the fact that not all the necessary conditions which would have enabled the event to go ahead on the scheduled date were in place,' said IOTA General Secretary, Marco Sala, adding, 'We are, however, currently looking at other venues in order to maintain the regularity of Events in the running of the 2009 Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.'
