Below Freezing: A SUP Adventure in Norway

Earlier this year we brought to you a sneak preview of an incredible SUP movie from Fanatic. You might remember snow covered landscapes and paddlers walking across completely frozen beaches, or feeling for Kai as he get cleaned up by a sub-zero set wave on a cloudy day.

Now, the full version has just been announced, and it's nothing short of breathtaking.

Stand Up Paddling holidays have a distinct set of characteristics for most people… Blue water, white sand, board shorts and possibly some beers spring to mind. This holiday however, does not have those characteristics; but you can bet your favorite paddle that you would jump at the chance to experience this kind of beauty on a stand up paddle board, no matter how cold!

Norway, is known for many amazing things... But the extremely cold winters and the fact there's as little as three hours of daylight each day; are not among those things. But stand up paddlers for Fanatic Kai and Lena knew there was more to Norway, and when they set out on a camping trip with their stand up paddle boards, they found a winter landscape that is truly amazing.

"SUP is an outdoor sport, which means you are going to challenge the elements, seeing what your body is capable of." Explains Kai, "Our journey led us to Norway in the middle of winter, to explore the beauty of this country on our SUP's. Norway welcomed us with temperatures around minus 21?C and snow covered landscapes. Sleeping in a tent in winter was it's own challenge and cooking with deep frozen food another one. This was all worth it and made this adventure one that I will remember forever. It was so stunning to paddle in all these amazing places in the quietness of winter. Thanks to Lena for joining me on this trip, showing that girls can also handle the tough conditions!"

While you're sweltering through the next 45 degree heatwave here in Australia, think about these guys paddling quite happily in -21 degrees. Where would you rather be?
