Hello there, welcome to Sailing NV, We’re a sailing family pursuing an unconventional dream of sailing around the world in our recently converted ex Vendée Globe Open 66 race boat. For those of you that aren’t familiar with our story, about a year ago, just before we set off on our passage from Vanuatu to Indonesia, we discovered water in our gearbox oil and started to have trouble going in and out of gear, luckily mostly reverse gear. This was a nasty surprise, especially as we’d only relaunched 6 months prior, and had just changed the sail drive seals. We won’t know for sure the cause until we haul out, it could be a worn shaft where the seal goes, it could be the drain plug, whose thread is stripped, or it could be the amount of plastic we’ve encountered in Indonesian waters and get caught round our propeller. Due to our extreme draft of 4.2m it's not been easy for us to find somewhere to haul out to fix the gearbox problem. However we hope we've finally found a yard where it's possible in the north of Borneo... but there are still several hurdles to overcome...
