Controversy boiled almost immediately on the opening day of SailGP racing in 2026, when New Zealand’s Black Foils collided with the Swiss team in Race 1 at the Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix presented by KPMG. As The Foil’s Andy Rice and Freddie Carr discover, Kiwi driver Pete Burling puts the blame squarely on the rival boat for the clash, which eliminated the Black Foils from further participation in the Australian opener. But it was his crew that took the seven-point penalty.
