From that little table of figures... I conclude;

Of the 22 blokes running around at AFL elite level for each team, each weekend;
- The vast majority are getting paid $200k to $300k.
- roughly 5-6 guys will be getting $300k-$400k.
- About 3 of them will be on $400-$500k.
- About 2.2 of them will be getting $500k++
- about 10-12 of the others not in the team and playing in the VFL, will be getting roughly $100-$200k
- roughly 5 main bands of pay.
- many players will also receive many extra fringe benefits, and sponsorship deals...

At Geelong, I would rank the boys as;
$500k+ - Joel Selwood & Jimmy Bartel.
Just behind, maybe Scarlo and Stevie J & Chappie.
The next 6 - Enright, Kelly, Joel Corey, Mackie, Harry Taylor, maybe Hawkins breaking in to that group shortly.
Then statistics tell you that the following stars are under $300k.... WoJo, Hunt, Stokes, Byrnes, Varcoe, Lonergan, Pods, etc.

But their pay day's were topped up with 1, 2 or 3 Premiership Medals, with the odd Brownlow, & Norm Smith (Stevie J, Chappie, and Jimmy Bartel - Stevie J nearly nabbed 2 actually!). . Plus future value is higher for a Premiership Player !

Go Cats !

Do the same for your teams... eg Freeo... Pav & Sandy would be in the top bracket obviously...

Not sure on the current style, but if you take a peak inside the handbags, you will find a mixed bag of Premiership Medallions, Brownlows, and Norm Smith Medals.

And even the odd medal from the Pre-Season comp...

if you don't like football (i would enjoy participating and playing football as a team but not watch it)Dont support it.The wages they earn are a direct result of good marketing .Afl is all $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Its a business catering for entertainment and viewers.

Ok then !! RatZ i think Aussie rules football is a great sport a quite enjoy kicking the football around And if you have kids they absolutely love it Its a great sport for development in team-skills and fitness, i guess alot of our youngsters look up to the football personas..My intention is not to denote slander the sport but there is a fine line between making money and playing for passion.

For what these players produce is substantial yes. But the long term effects of injury's and ongoing maintenance of there most important asset "there body" is the price they pay.

Sorry about being so anal about the subject i dont folow aussie rules football and its extremely difficult to get a break from it.. Eveyone at work is in the tipping comp dream team comp spends all weekend watching it..I kinda wish windsurfing or kitesurfing was at that level .... Id have no problem creating conversation !!!

Id have to say out of about 200 people at work about 5 percent are into kitesurfing/windsurfing whereas about 70 percent are into watching football. Its difficult to discuss football when my passion lies in a different area.
