Cops? Nah. Just get a crew of like minded citizens to lay in wait at the problematic carparks and deliver good ol' corporal punishment. Then maybe call the cops once you're all avenged.

A group of 4 or 5 local blokes really need to band together and sort out the problem. Blind freddy could find these scumbags. Start sending some controlled messages out into the universe and it wont be long before the word gets around

About a century ago, I used to surf snot regularly. Before the grading the crowds, the 14 year old locals and the lack of carpark space. Back then you had two tracks to go over the hill on, the soft one on the right or the 2wd on the left. Anyhoo after another successful surf where I believed I'd shown Gerry Lopez and tomcat roll a thing or two about tube riding. ( at least in my imagination if not in real life) get back to my car. Smashed window door open board gone and my last spliff that was pre rolled missing. That was when I became hank, I got in the car still in wetsuit and burned up the hill. It was an unfortunate situation upon reaching top of said hill, there they were bogged with my board in the back huddling around and smoking my spliff, clearly I offered my assistance to the best I could by removing my spliff from said Vermont hands retrieving my board and obtaining drivers licence from ****head thief ( all items required what would be described as reasonable force to obtain ( what's reasonable to hank may be a little left field of most) put board in car and left them bogged. Fast forward to a few days later window fixed and a 350 bill ( I detailed my car too to be a real wanker) go to young mans licence address to " return dropped licence" it is here I met his father and sat down for a lengthy chat about his son and friends. The thirds old boy knew what his young bloke was like, he gave me the cash back for the window and detailing. I didn't want to take it off him. He laughed and said he works for me as my apprentice ill be docking his pay. I said thanks and moved on with my life. I must also admit that by not losing my **** and hitting or punching thieves I didn't get myself in the poo. I dare say it may of been different if I'd caught them in the act. I don't think anyone would really want to see the window on there car gets mashed or stuff stolen. There is a very high chance of seeing red and losing it. I know what i would do its just hank I'd be worried about

Thieves were hanging out in the carpark, watching where surfers were hiding their keys, then waiting til said surfers were in the water before helping themselves to whatever was in the car.

A few boogers hid on the hill with a video camera while one of their mates suited up and hid a dummy key under his wheel arch. Sure enough once that guy was in the water two blokes were filmed getting out of a nearby car, retrieving the key from under the wheel, then trying it unsuccessfully in all door and boot locks.

In the meantime the cops were en route, and the hidden boogers had positioned their cars to block off the exits to the carpark so the thieves were trapped.

Well played boogers!

I hope the police showed up quickly!

Beaches and modern carkeys are a pain these days.

I pulled the spare key apart on the missus Territory.
The 'immobiliser' section gets locked in the car, and the actual key insert has a cable tie put on it attached to whatever and off you go.

Ive before seen guys hide their keys, only to have a short while latter a different guy access the car. So i stopped him and it started to get a little heated. He eventually told me the his name and who owned the car, then after proceeded to get out a wallet and prove that. It turned out okay and he settled down and acutely was rather apologetic and was really happy to have people looking out. But I've never questioned any one every again..You simply don't know

I take a key into the water, its the only safe way IMHO..

Also a side point is in South Africa thats how Shark Spotters program got started. A guy paid a local to sit and watch his car whilst surfing. He later took two guys one to watch cars and one to watch the water Maybe we could use dole bludgers or work for the dole to watch the car parks

I use the key lock that is advertised on seabreeze. at the time it cost about $90. It is made well, 4 digit mechanical combo and I can leave it attached to the tow bar...Means my 'electronic key' stays dry..

Wow, most guys don't lock cars here - let alone hide keys!

I lock the cab (generally don't worry about the canopy) and sit the keys in a pretty obvious place - only to save the inconvenience of having to cancel cards or have some clown steal my phone.

So JB, when you open your car door with the bunnings key, do you have to say 'blip-blip"?
