Has anyone found a successful product on the market for keeping keys dry whilst on the water? I guess something like a re-sealable plastic bag would do.
Just got a new (2nd hand) car & its got an electronic key!

Thanks.

You can usually get a "non electronic" key cut, i.e. just the metal section, which will lock the doors. (may not set the alarm, depends on car, but at least its locked). Then put it around your neck or in your harness etc.

There not cheap though. Cost me nearly $70 for a laser cut commodore key.

The worst thing is... Going for a ttly awesome kite, coming in, packing up totally... closing the car, and realizing you just shut the keys in there *doh*

nothing like waiting for RACQ to come haha *embarassing* but a good laugh around for a bit

But trust me, will NEVER be done again. lool.

Just don't do what I saw one poor guy do.

He bought one of these waterproof key containers (about the size of a hard sunglasses case) and attached it to the top of his mast and put his keys in it before going for a sail.

He came in at the end of the sesh only to find that the latch had come undone and the keys were "out there" somewhere

I loaned him my phone but everyone he called was not picking up. So I did the right thing

and left him there.

Go for the cut key.

I open my boot and then arm my locks with the electronic button - throw the keys in the boot and the cut key hangs around my neck - slam the boot shut and whammo a secure car.

First thing you do when you return to the car is open the boot, grab the electronic keys and disarm the doors, open the front drivers door and put the keys in the ignition - some cars will relock if you don't open the doors or put the keys in the ignition. Keep the cut key around your neck until your about to drive away.

Just remember with the simple cut keys(cheaper) they usually won't start your engine but are good enough to open your doors/boot.

Just go to a good lock smith to cut your key or a minute man not your car dealer...ouch$$$$$

Cheers

Yep, Daves right. I got my Commodore key cut for $26 at Mister Minit.
All it does is lock and unlock your car, wont start it. I put the copy in drivers side door lock. Last thing I do is turn it to the left twice, second time stops anyone from popping up buttons by hand or other means, put it in my boardies pocket and zip it up. If in wettie, just put it around your neck under suit.
Just dont leave it in door for whole session like some peanuts do, me
