Leslie at the Pinnacles Caravan Park may be able to help you if you can't find it on Google. You could send her an email. She was gonna show me the vid one day , but was taking too long to load, so I missed out on seeing it. J

I wonder if somebody could draw the actual run path ?
and what are results of the winner ( average speed and peak max speed ) ?

It's coolness factor has increased considerably since it's no longer an Olympic sport.

RE: That video.
Not sure now if I want to keep on the FSW path, or get full-on slalom gear. Or just go all out and buy a helicopter.

Yes cos it is still faster than kiting in open water. Like the best kiters in the world, invited to the Rotto race and smashed by a windsurfer:

And windsurfers do pretty good on the day we all whined that Cervantes had no wind

Yes. They do.
And it's much better now since all the total tools and dropkicks seem to have moved over to kiting.

You'd think the opposite, in that we go down to smaller boards for chop, and a kiteboard is a lot smaller.

What gives? Is it that the rig and sail are *right there*? Is it better control?

The actual run path is worked out on the day.

The weekend is more about fun than serious "racing".

Basically its held at either Thirsty Point, or the main beach boat ramp area (boat ramp being used in the loosest of senses).
You just show up, tell them your sail number (or stick one on with duct tape on the day) and go out and have a blast.
Then tell tall tales at the tavern or sports club that evening ... all good fun

Noob posts a windsurf question in neutral ground. War breaks out. Again.

Anyway, here's my contribution:

I was thinking those "Windsurfing has been cancelled" stickers were funny 10 years ago... now with the olympic decision they would be funny all over again

Windsurfers still faster, but kiters can do official world records in mega shallow water which is faster so I think they will forever hold the record now.
Less chop in shallows? Some sort of boundary layer hydrodynamical NASA kinda concept? I dunno how it works.
But in real world conditions we smash them.

Geez, I am not fast, never speed sailed and haven't ridden a slalom board in 10yrs+ and I still overtake kiters on my freetylewave gear (so much so that it is annoying, wide berth and all)

Do they still have the speed week at Sandy Point in Vic? That was fun and boring all at the same time. Lots of time spent standing around in line waiting...

I am not a speed-star either but every time the same dilemma
- you do overtake kiter easy
- you point higher to the wind
-you get to the beach first

.... and then what ??
I could not perform nice wide fast jibe in the in the front of kiter risking to be run over ,
I could not even go lower to the wind risking kiter jumping over my head, sail and mast at the turn.

It's not rocket science, it's just the difference between skating on solids and liquids. Windsurfers will never catch an ice yacht or a blow cart. But both kite boarders and windsurfers need to balance the shallow water tradeoffs. Vertical lift becomes less draggy, but horizontal lift becomes more draggy due to the short crappy fins that have to be used.

But I got overtaken cruising upwind in deep water by a fellow on one of those new crappy fins the other day. Going higher and faster! So they're not all that bad.

http://boards.mpora.com/features/maui-ultra-fins-delta-concept.html

I don't think windsurfers have hit the break even point of shallow water yet. Multi fins using this idea should get windsurfers into shallower water. They'll catch the kites if someone is brave enough to ride them.
