Was going to send this to our newest parent Windy Miller, but thought I'd share it with you all. Firstly nappies - we haven't used disposable nappies for over 12 months, as my wife discovered the "modern cloth nappy". These little beauties are pre-shaped similar to disposables, with clip on insert pads and velcro tags. They have their own underground fan base, to be found on a website called Nappycino.
www.nappycino.com.au/ My wife spends as much time on their forum as I do here. Most nappies are home made by some of the members of the site, and are generally made from stuff like organic cotton, hemp (no you can't smoke them), bamboo fibre etc. And they come in pretty colours and patterns. And as for the urban myth that cloth nappies are worse for the environment than disposables because you have to wash them, what a load of XXXX. Obviously made up by someone too lazy to do some washing. BUT anyway this leads me to my second point - we haven't used detergent for over 12 months also. My wife discovered soapnuts
mandurahcarpetcleaning.net.au/These little rippers grow in India - you just chuck em in the washing machine, they do their job, and you re-use them for ages. A $30 bag keeps us going for 6 months, and that's washing a load a day. Hang on, have I been saying we and us - I don't even know how to work the washing machine

But that's because I'm too busy working to pay for stuff like a new front loader, which uses way way less water than a top loader, so I was told. Our council even gave a $100 rebate on our rates for buying an environmentally friendlier washing machine.

Anyway, that's my environmentally friendly baby rave.
