Howdy. I've only just dicovered that these wierd stringy wormy things drifting about in my vision are called Floaters. I've had them for years but I think they might be slowly getting more numerous, and was wondering if anyone else experiences them too?

This is generally what they look like. Apparently most folk have them but aren't aware of it till it's pointed out to them:

yes i can see them occassionally
yeah we did something about this in science...
its just cells from the fluid in your eye and the dead ones float to the lens and get stuck there...
they stay there if ur eye is not cleansing itself properly or something, because apparently the fluid is constantly being cleaned and removed and more produced...
at least i think thats what i remember being told ahaha
im sure someone can prove me wrong

Yep, I've got floaters too. Nothing to worry about, according to the optometrist. A little freaky when you first notice them.

Presumably they get that terminology because you can uphaul on them in subplaning conditions. (Had to make this thread relevant, didn't I).

yeah. i get floaters. seem to be worse after a week of good wind.

i figure i'll be blind before i'm 40 due to staring into the setting sun (and its reflection off the ocean) every 25knot arvo.

I get floaters but only when I eat lots of vegetables

They don't flush easily

Yep, really annoying when they are right at your point of focus and you are trying to read a book. But they move on. No biggie.

Am in my late fifties and been surfing and windsurfing since I can remember.Found my floaters at about age 15, and too frightened to tell anyone cos I thought it was caused by that thing that makes ya go blind!Anyway finally went to the doc and he told me it was hypertension.Still have them, seems worse on bright sunny days, but I dont try to swat them like, as if they are flies anymore.Guess we learn to live with things

I wasn't sure if it was a reoccurring acid flashback[}:)], or if I had a colony of sea-monkeys in my scone... now, thanks to this thread, all my fun has gone and I'm cursed to watch them float around knowing it's just a boring old medical condition.

OH WOW! There goes a red one with a violet trace!
