Hi all.

Picked up a new board last night, so was keen for the early this morning... anyways, when fitting the fins noted that one set of screws were very stiff to do up... so much so that I managed to 'strip' the inside 'hex' key bit and now the tool slips. Wouldn't be a problem if the fin was tight, but the bloody thing is still loose.

Being a five fin board I can pinch a grub screw out of the centre slot - the problem is going to be getting the 'stripped' one out.

Currently I am thinking of super-glueing an old FCS tool in there and letting it set before having a go.

Any other ideas or advice appreciated. Not sure if it matters, but its an epoxy.

Good idea glueing an old key in there but I would use JB Weld not super glue. It will be much stronger.

Fcs is not the future yeah it's good to traveling and space but I buy boards to surf on here is the truth . If you don't tighten fins enough you get no drive and can lose them easy .if you over tighten it loads up digging into the tab creating point loading which causes plugs to come out when doing turns future fins are the same but not as bad cause the key is in line however it only relies on one screw not much when a set of fins is 150 bucks . I have the pancho tuff lite the Dorian tuff lite a insight and just got a custom of Dave Lewis sickest board ever it's a rhino chaser but if I surfing 4 to6 ft it's the old school glass fin rusty that comes out if your too young to of ever surfed on glass fins or forget what it's like do it it'll change your surfing .We have been sold a lie and lapped it up . Why do we have to pay for fins when we buy a new board ? most boards don't even come with what size fins are recommended by the shaper but hay then again most boards nowadays come out of a machine .last time I got a custom single fin it was like michael petersons and it cost 150 bucks more for a glass fin worth every cent.try using the next size up Allan key I recommend using imperial sizing as it is only slightly bigger than the metric fcs key otherwise next size up is a mm bigger this has worked for me in the past ****en fin systems .maybe I'm old at 30

Cant help with the fin but whats the new board?

FCS and futures are the same screw.. 3/32 whitworth. Go to the hardware and get any ezy out.
FCS are shorter screws but same thread etc.

Or as doggie said, the FCS ratchet is $14 and comes with the easy out in it, also your unlikely to strip it with a ratchet cause the key does not have to be takn out and put back in for each turn. So well worth the money, comes with 4 FCS bit an ezy out and a few screwdriver bits.

If you still have a problem after all of that, you can get the whole FCS plug drilled out, and set a new one in. But it will cost money... not much though...

Ask around, might get someone to do it for free... My brother can do it. But he's in Vic. He's free! He just likes doing that sort of stuff...
