The main reason, if I can have a relatively civil discussion with PM/PC, then I stand a chance of having a proper discussion with my old man.

That's actually quite funny. From my perspective anyway! He's not a flat earther is he?

I use the forum for similar reasons. Practicing arguments, practicing writing, floating ideas. Initially I fell into the trap of saying some pretty mean and nasty stuff. The sort of crap that would earn you a thick ear if you did it face to face.

I'm not proud of it and realise that it achieves nothing positive.

Nah, he's just swallows whatever Andrew Bolt says.

Have to admit there's been actual discussion around difference in opinions on a few topics, where not long ago it would have gotten pretty vile.

Seems there's a few on here who are doing something similar.

I will listen tonight.

Google the song Shallow by Mental AZ - some genius lyrics.

All their songs have a meaning.

I listened to 20 minutes of the video.

Any chance you can give us a generalisation of what he's saying?

Does he believe in their spinning ball theory?

You only think it's a theory. It's been a well known fact for many centuries.

I will listen to another 20 minutes tonight then - confirmation bias lol.

Did you get what decrepit wrote - seemingly its been a well know 'fact' for centuries lol.

Thought I'd just mention that to improve your sleeping.

Could you, out of genuine interest, answer some of these questions to the best of your knowledge?
How big is the moon?
How does it shine light?
How far away is it (from sea level obviously, you can choose your own datum)?

You make an interesting point about this distance of the moon, especially the datum that might be used. I remember in 1994 when Australia switched from WGS84 to GDA as the datum. Points on an Australian map moved about 200 meters because, as all educated people know, the earth is an oblate spheroid. The thing is though, the moon's orbit around the Earth varies by 42,592 km, whereas the diamater of the Earth varies by only 31 km.I am sure that Pcdefender is beavering away on all manner of mathematical, geometrical and trigonometrical calculations as we speak. So to be fair and make his job easier, I think we should take the datum out of the equation.

What, no answer yet? I think he is probably outside with a measuring tape trying to figure it out.

If men created the sun and the moon, what was there before they did this?

I have to say, I am amazed that we can have a planet, with enough gravity that it sucks us back down to earth easily, remains at a relatively fixed distance from the sun, yet can also have the moon stuck orbiting around it. Gravity is a very strange beast. To have enough force to attract but not so much that it immediately drags everything together.

Amazing.

Are you saying, they just float off into space??????

Because that's what would happen if gravity didn't affect them.

Here's your big chance Pete...

"A man named Will Duffy, a pastor who made a few debates with flat earthers has launched an event called the Final Experiment.

He invited 24 "big names" in the flat Earth movement and 24 in the "debunkers" community to go to Antarctica next December and observe the 24H Sun that flat Earther have been denying for years (not counting the fact that they claim that civilians can't go there anyway.
In addition, Will Duffy will pay all the expenses for one flat earther and one "normie".

On the Globe side, David McKeegan, a British photographer and YouTuber has won the popular vote and will travel to Antarctica for free. Congratulations, Dave.

On the Flat Earth side, the winner of the vote to get the free trip was David Weiss, aka Flat Earth Dave, aka DIRTH.

Weiss is probably one of the richest flat Earth gurus thanks to his "flat Earth app" that is estimated to have grossed him close to a million.

And Weiss has turned down this invitation for a free trip. He wrote that he doesn't want to have anything to do with "demons".

Here is a man who spent years saying that Antarctica is the key to knowing the truth and who is not interested to go there for free..
I think that it's difficult not to conclude that this man who presents himself as a "truth seeker" is absolutely not interested in seeing for himself.

As of today, over the 24 flerfs that have been invited to participate, only 5 have even acknowledged the invitation.

What not "do your own research" with Will Duffy? A free trip to Antarctica, who wouldn't want that? Unless you are in denial.

Are you sure a sermon is the correct medium to try present scientific proof?
I find discussions or talks based on theology or scripture rely a lot on belief and not so much on evidence

I've nothing against the guy, seems he's genuinely helping a lot of people.

Reckon you could give us a few of his key points around the physical science?
