i am looking for some help to complete a flat water forward loop. after reading some comments from pros in an article online they say that they have never been hurt trying a forward.

I am living proof that there is an exception to that rule. and oh, it hurt bad....

it appears that i have taken the first step outlined in the how to's, "i actually tried to do it."

this is what i did.

i sailed on a broad reach and found a piece of chop, i then jumped the board, moved my sheet hand further back on the boom and sheeted in and pulled it up. i tucked the board up under my bum and looked back over my sheet hand shoulder. the rest is a blur,

apparently i rotated. the nose of the board then got stuck in the bottom, it was very shallow, my mates where siting down in the water where i tried it and i thought they were standing up.

i only got half way round and came to a very sudden stop with my mast pointing in the direction is was travelling. my head soar and my boom broken, (i think due to my head) and the nose of my board bent.

other than,

1.idiot why did you try it
2.what fool attempts a loop in 40cm of water
3.give up looping

can anyone provide tips so i can try it again? (hey, i can still walk)

justin.

Saw some guys practising on the beach at coros last year, they didn't seem to hurt themselves.
No board just the rig, looked like a good exercise, may be somebody can help you with it.

cheers decrepit,

i guess if it can be done on dry land then i must be rotating the wrong direction. i might give that a go.

from 1 justin to another justin - get yourself a copy of the "7 sons of freestyle" dvd as it has a great learn to flatwater forward lesson on it.

u can practice judo rolls on the grass or beach with the sail (no board) and it helps u get the sensation of the pull and rotation. 12knots of wind is good strength to try on grass.

sort of shows technique

bastard

been a awefull season here this year. Hopefully feb will come through with the goods.

u know u can do those loops! You will definately nail them at least in one direction! u got so close here in 25 degree water temp land.

i still haven't sussed them on the other direction yet. my left side is alot better. pulling with my left hand and foot doesn't feel right yet

p.s i now done 7 vulcans. they are harder than loops! u think u got it sussed then u stuff the next 30, but i'm getting them in both directions. At least the loops get progressively easier

cheers

Its easier to do in the ocean... with waves (little ones are good). I perforated my ear drum doing one... at scarbs on that windy saturday with a 5.2m... Was a tad overpowered in the 25/30 knotts...

ear is all better now so doc says I can get it wet again so will be out there doing some more one weekend.

like filthy said, i have found them alot easier to do in the surf. U can do them alot slower and still get right around in most cases. Steady wind helps, as many times ive jumped up and had the wind drop, leaving me with no power in the sail to spin me right around. I've found that if u can nail them on small chop, you'll have no problems doing them off real waves.
