I'm about to make a purchase for "Home Movies"... (surf!)...
Main purpose, use Gaffa/Duct Tape, to tape it onto a 9 foot longboard, for moderately powerful surf... (no gaffa tape puns please! )

GoPro is nowhere(!) near as slim lined as the rest;

The plan, fashion a little foam mount to get the angle, and to also smooth out "resistance from the surf"... I was thinking along the lines of a "mini-747-esque" pop-up section on the nose, with no shortage of Thick Grey-Gaffa Tape...

So the camera needs to be water-resistant...

Is 'naked' Contour or Replay (brands) 'water-resistant' enough for this purpose, or would you want the 'Water Proof Housings'.

Thanks.

Damn... I love my Roam2 - no case for the bastard to fog up.

DriftHD would be the next camera I'd look at... only water resistant though, so... it'd need a case.

Although that Sony one is cheap too... especially in Japan. Wonder if it uses SD cards though...

Contour will be back. They have filed a chapter 11 and will refinance.

Hoorah!

Meanwhile . . . this one IS waterproof!

I personally don't think the IQ is as good as GoProHD3 or Contour, but that's just MHO.

Oh, meant to say - the ROAM is the just waterproof Contour, I think the other ones aren't at all. So long as you're not diving at all, I think on a board or kite line mount will be fine; even on a helmet, and you get a dunking . . .

Always do a trial run on the cheaper Kogan - loose that less of a worry.
Realistically facing yourself on a SBoard - quality should be ok on the specs..
Any one tried one .. ??

Cheers

Go pro is a bit bulky but Go Pro Black / Pro res is the bomb if you are looking to grade and get footage that "pops" off the screen.

If image quality concern is "good enough will do" the other options are good.

Sony's version, the HDR-AS15 has really good image stabilisation... Makes mountain bike vision steady enough to watch.

I ran the Mudd Rush last weekend. I wore my Go Pro and my mate had a identical copy that he picked up cheaper on line. The difference in quality of filming is chalk and cheese.

He just bought a Go pro

Garmin is doing one now too.

Drift Ghost is also waterproof without a case . . .

Oh and I forgot - JVC does a waterproof-without-a-case model too. "Shock/dust/freeze/water proof" they advertise it as too.
