I know many surfers play golf and often are quite good at it.

The rotation of the hips in both sports probably contributing to some of the success.

A fleeting success it would seem because consistency alludes most golfers.

Personally the best I have hit is 77 over 18 including a hole in one.

Yet recently I easily smacked 115 and often struggle to break 100.

What is your ONE tip to alleviate my (and others) woes?

Don't count your shots. Just assume a personal best each time you play...

Place your shots from the hole back, ie; don't try to get as close as possible on every hit.

Consistency - play & practice more
Muscle memory - see above
Focus & concentration
Flexibility and conditioning
It's all in your head
Enjoy the moment and the play.

Applies to surfing, golf, windsurfing, tennis.......most things

After the first few shots on each hole, try and be as far away from the ball as possible after you hit it.
(this announcement has been a community service. Don't say I never do anything to help.)

Golf: the only sport I know of where the object is play less of the sport than you did before (ie hit the ball less times)

Golf courses can have more betterer and funner uses too........

Its going back a few years, but a couple of Dads mates were posted to an army base that had a golf course either onsite, or adjacent [not sure which]

The golf course had much use as a practice area for the bloopers they were issued.

The greenkeepers would leave empty open topped drums hidden all around the golf course as targets for the fellas to [hopefully] hit with thier inert or smoke rounds.

Many beers lost and won during "training" sessions, but the time spent on the golf course was invaluable when they were sent off to do thier bit in Vietnam.

I learnt more from having lessons from a Pro that taught the principles of "The Golf Machine" rather than a regular PGA Pro. Once you understand the mechanical elements of a golf swing, you can understand why you hit it thin, slice, top etc..

when i aws playing off a 2 , i spent the majority of my practice time on the chipping green . Practicing shots from 50m and closer . This is where the majority of your wasted shots come from . I would say spend 3-60 minutes on the driving range and then 2-3 hours on the chipping green .

If anyone is shooting between 85 and 105 then scoring is a false indicator of how you're really going. Ball striking is the key to good golf. Good solid center face hits. Really it doesn't matter so muck whether they go straight or not, that will come. I've payed games where I've hit 75 and played like crap..... But putted like a boss, and I've played rounds of 85 where I've just smashed it. Those are the best.
