As unAustralian as this might sound I was barracking for the Black caps. Good win cuzzie bros.

PS - My distaste limited affection for the Aust. Cricket side stems from my dislike of one Michael Clarke.

[edit - just to shorten that bow Doggie is referring to, I don't particularly think Ponting whilst Captain made me feel all warm and fuzzy for them, and the way they carried on win or lose was another massive turn off. A long bow would be me not liking them because Clarke went out with that annoying "where the Bloody hell are you" Bingle girl, but I'm happy to draw that bow as well . ]

The title is Great MomentS in NZ Sport

Is winning a test match by 16 runs, to draw the series, to fail to capture the Trans-Tasman trophy against the poorest Aussie cricket team of the last 15 years really a great moment ?

Carantoc, yes it is still a great moment in NZ sport.....

We are pretty **** at cricket lets be honest. Just this time the Aussies were ****ter. Im sure it wont last long, Im prod of my Black Caps though, good on em, u gotta admit, the bowling was pretty good.

PS dont say we suck at all sports though! I recall we have done pretty well at the yachting, and we have a guy on the PKRA who finished fourth I think. I think we might have had a guy who did really well in the cheese rolling competition a few years back too. Gotta celebrate all the milestones, huh

It is one of the great moments in NZ sport for sure - we had to win it twice when the third umpire was used!! It may not be one of yr best teams ever but before this series how many of our guys would you have picked ahead of yours? It certainly wasn't our best team. Infact our best player of the last 10 yrs was sidelined minutes before the match. We blew the first test for sure and the first day of this one. But they showed great character to fight back the next 3 days. Its a drawn series and that is the reason you retain the cup. We do not really care too much about that. Its been 26 long yrs between drinks and we will enjoy it! It maybe another 26 before we get to do it again!!

I have seen some pretty offensive postings on here of late but implying the Aussie cricket team is 'my' team is inexcusable. I call on the moderators to purge this slur on my character.

Whilst I agree winning the match having lost the toss was always going to be tricky, that Clarke is but a pimple on Vittori's arse and that the Aussie selectors seem to have the disease that crippled the mighty motherland for a few years back along I am not sure where the moments were.

Phil Hughes caught in the slips, Ponting striking out, Clarke failing with bat, ball and captaincy seem more of an aussie failure than a great NZ victory.

However, for sure any time that a team with Ponting and Clarke in it looses should be celebrated loud and hard.

Ponting - I've always said to the knockers, that's fine if you want Ponting in, but who are you going to replace him with? Same thing when he was captain. Pup wasn't ready back then, earlier. And I couldn't see a better option at the time, when people were first calling for his sacking. Pontings stats are pretty good.

In the last few months he has averaged 31 at Test Level. Still OK. Hughes is about 28 recently.

Quite good stats ?

Third highest test scorer of all time, average above 50, 80% wins as captain. They are stunning stats. If he retires now they will remain stunning stats. If he carries on trying to re-live yesteryear the stats get worse every game.

To be great you gotta know when to declare

I hope they pick Ponting and Hussey for the series against India

It will be great to see them loose again.

Last time this team played India they got whitewashed. No wins at test, one day or T20 in the entire tour.

That was after they lost the ashes.

Everyone said 'well now they have 5 months before they play another test, time to reflect, review and build for the future'.

Warner is only in the team because Marsh was injured. How about Warner AND Marsh in the team, if Ponting has to go to make room then get some balls and sack him.

Khaw aja career average is 29, recent average of 26.

I think we need better batsmen across the board. They share the losses equally I think.

Apology accepted.

Just to let you know I would rather marry a gay, have my arse harpooned by a Jap whaler, have my ass speared by the Sea Shepard, have Joolia's full confidence and drink a half full glass of flouride enriched chemtrails whilst discussing life the universe and everything with Dude and Man than support the Aussie cricket team.

last 2 yrs must be similar.......actually just checked and this is his last two yrs

2009-2011 20 matches 1200 runs 209 H/S 33.33 Ave.

Considering his career ave is now 52.29 and was 55.61 up until 2 yrs ago it shows that he is a man that has lost his powers. He once dominated every bowling attack but now they all dominate him. A sad demise from a once great player (not sportsman). It seems to me that people are reluctant to retire and go out on top these days as the financial rewards are too great. Would you walk away from $4m a year? I know I would find it hard.

Pup is doing OK, recent average of 57. But take those 3 tons away, and he has scored on 56 runs in 7 knocks, averaging a whopping 8 !!

3 tons were - 139 - 151 - 112.
7 mostly bad knocks otherwise - 22, 0, 11, 2, 2, 6, 13.
