sorry hardman i was too slow in getting back to you
its a pretty handy cam to check out and in winter i get on and have a look to see if there is enough swell for a surf and when the whole shot is a mass ball of white water you know your in for some big waves
my dads cousin is the owner of suntique clothes shop up there so i ring her for conformation on wind speed she is cool she just sticks her head out of the shop door and gives me the full weather run down

Greenie,

Hardman because when I was a young bloke I used to treat my girlfriends pretty hard, till they dumped me.

2 hours is usually my limit, the swell just picked up out of nowhere in that last hour, so I kept sailing. Should add as technique gets better you put less strain on body, getting harness lines setup perfect is critical , as well as learning not to hand on too hard, letting your body weight take the stress

Felt like a cripple last night, and don't feel much better today

I'm in my mid forties, after a big sail I feel like I'm in my mid eighties

To have sore back after an hour Greenmate is not quite normal.
either you've got a ****ty harness or bad position or simply has you said the motorcross wasn't the best thing for your back.

I don't want to sound like an old granny but just that I had to go through quite a tough time with back pain and then surgery that I wouldn't wish anyone to have the same... (and I am not that old ..only 30)

THAT IS WHY I would simply advice you to do just few back stretches before going in the water. (and also when you are doing breaks if you feel sore). I know it is sometimes frustrating to be all ready to go and have to spend few minutes doing stretches and to maybe look a bit stupid....but not that stupid when you know that you would be able to sail longer this time and also up to your 70ties.

I used not to do anything before and just go for a beer after , but when you think of it going from nothing sitting in the car to blasting at 20knots in choppy water can't be the best for you body....

so ok I could imagine few people saying what is this crap? I am ok!
Ok but everybody's back is different and you could have the strongest big muscles in your back and still have sore back...see surfer Mark Occhilupo or swimmer Michael Klim

so don't mess up with your back!!
get a good waist harness
do few stretches before going in
rip craaaaaaaaaazy !!!!!!!!!
and have a good long hot shower after
ALL THIS MAKES a HUGE DIFFERENCE
you will sail longer!!!

(could still have the cold beer in the hot shower)

here are few ideas:

good luck

good stretches leski i do do some of those but i will use the others too when i was 14 i jumped off a trampoline did 2 1/2 flips and landed on my head and my back went CRACK and from that day on its been stuffed oh by the way i was doing this into a foam pit in a gym my mates and i were doing double flips and of corse i had to do one better and tryed three but didnt quite make it ive just spent 2600 bucks on a mattress and it has been doing wonders when i wake in the morning i was waking up in pain and all day being in aggony and iam an apprentice electrician and do alot of hard slogging last year i dug trenches like a dog coz my boss was too scabby to hire a trench digger (bastard) thats why i quit from him walk off the job any way hey hardman im working on my harness lines at the moment trying to get the right length on them and i have i visual speed seat harness new i got from surf sail and i do find that when i concentrate on technique i let the sail pull my wieght it releases alot of stress on the back and definately the arms im 26 but i want to be sailing for alot longer than 30
just one question before im finished blabbing is there a good way of adjusting harness lines length and position on boom

Greenie

Not sure what you mean by any good way to adjust harness lines

Often people have them too far forward, so it's a good idea to try sailing with them in (1 to 2 cm movements back) till it feels wrong, then go forward a bit.

You need to get to a point where you can easily sail with just one hand on the boom, and can get very short periods with both hands off, then you know you can back off the pressure with arms and hands, and use body weight more. Let me know if you need more info

PS. There's 2 guys here that wavesail and there both 59 and going strong, so I've set myself a goal to be wavesailing into my 60's.

cliffo and i went to lanos yesturday and found that 'bendz zee kneez' was a good option poida but im having greif with my harness lines[}:)] i have rope for lines and im trying to get the length on them right now for you hardman or leski or poida or anyone reading what lenght do you have your lines are you close to boom or far from boom ive started with holding onto boom and fitting my elbow into loop if that makes sence this may be too long so i shortened them and the rope are crap and keep stretching so i want to buy some new lines but not sure what lenght to get as ive seen a few in the shops
whats your opinion on harness lines im sure its not that hard and i feel moving them on the boom i can figure out its not a huge problem but i feel i need some fine tuning to go that little faster which i know i can do
anyway.....

Greenie

the loop to the elbow was a very old measure, my lines are 10 cm shorter than my elbow grip length, and I just bought 24's whatever the **** that means

Let's do a general posting there must be some good rules out there
