Just to throw another angle onto it the topic back in the day.......

You Know You are Living in 2008 When....

This was a forward... Yes i know... but still. read on.

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years, or ever.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail your co-worker who sits at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends is that they do not have e-mail addresses.

6. When you go home after a long day at work you still answer the phone in a business manner.

7. When you make phone calls from home, you accidentally dial 9 to get an outside line.

8. You've sat at the same desk for four years and worked for three different companies.

10. You learn on the 11 o'clock news about being laid off.

11. Your boss doesn't have the ability to do your job.

12. Contractors outnumber permanent staff and are more likely to get long-service awards.

AND THE REAL CLINCHERS ARE:

13. You read this entire list, and kept nodding and smiling.

14. As you read this list, you thought about forwarding it to your
Friends.

15. You are too busy to notice there is no number 9.

16. You actually scrolled back up to check that there isn't a
Number 9.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recent_deaths

I can't believe that in the notable deaths in 2008 on wikipedia.. From days 1st-4th of July, 10 of the 22 ppl who died, died of some form of cancer... 45% ...

Far out...

Sorry the statistics on cancer related deaths are starting to really alarm me...

I mean 52 is the age of some of us!... Fair enough if I was over 85 understandable, you have led most of your life.. but yeah.. wow

I was only 43 when I got the big 'c' but to be honest its probably one of the best things that ever happened to me (in a weird sort of way).
So in 2008, 3 months after chemo finished...
1. I started windsurfing
2. Cut back on work to enjoy life (means I don't have a lot of cash but life is so much better)

Elizabeth .. Dont let the stats worry you.
Live your life and enjoy it and dont sweat the small stuff.
If, and I mean if, you get cancer you just deal with it at that time.
No point in worrying about what may or may not happen tomorrow
Cancer doesn't always mean the end of life... for me it was the beginning of a new one

so back to the topic.....

You Know You are Living in 2008 When....

1. You have survived 2007

2. You mainly chat to your friends online

3. You have to take a second mortgage to fill the tank in your car

Well Said!!!

My wife, family & myself are going through a 'transition period' at the moment.....both quit our stressful jobs to start new, lower-paid, non-stressful jobs so we can spend more 'quality-time' with kids, and ourselves.....

The stresses in life are what we create - sometimes you have to step back, take a look at what your life is becoming, and choose the path that makes you happy.....MONEY DOESN'T! (in most cases)

Now I gotta go, wind's up!

Right on Master Hack so true mate

My Dad fell over aged 46 when I was 19, miss him terribly even now at 53, but man it makes you look at the big picture. My wife hasn't had a paid job for 16+ years since before my son was born and I do shift work. Gives us heaps of time together as a family, we miss out on some things but nothing that's important.
When I kick the bucket, no one's going to say the poor bastard, all he did was work

Now back to the humour

OceanBlue, I truly know what your saying. It's great your life has improved and you have grown from your experience with it; that is what matters.

My Mum has bowel cancer, had radiation, surgery, lower anterior resection with an ileostomy, had the reversal surgery months later... all not long ago... and is just fighting back... Yer fellas its just Mum and I so give me a thumbs down on this entire topic I don't care, but I was the only one here for her; I know and understand about this, not that I am saying you don't....

This isn't just coming from me reading some statistics guys... it comes from the heart. Sorry just the 'real' side of me you don't often see on here passed the joking around and loving with Pat and Rellie... There is more than a mucking around side.. I do care....

Just alarming statistics I think we can all learn from.
Especially now with Patrick Swayze, along with Randy Pausch, Alan Jones and the list goes on I suppose, which is good in the light that they are making people AWARE of it... Sorry but, I think that is the important thing... Go for the checkups...

I agree totally Elizabeth. People, especially us guys, need to be a little more vigilant when it comes to our health. I was a little slack and didnt act as quickly as I should have. This meant having a very intense course of chemo which, if I had acted promptly, may not have been needed.
Cancer makes no distinction regarding age. Whether you are 51 or 21, you must investigate any lump, bump, skin discolouration etc ASAP. Once you get past 30, go see your doc every 6 months for a check up. Self examination is a must. Parents need to educate their teenage children about self examination. It can save lives.

Lets face it...if you get sick you cant get out on the water!

Elizabeth: I hope your mum does well. If she has 1/2 the spirit that you display on here, I am sure she will do fine. Dont be sorry regarding posting what you did. Sometimes we all need a reminder that behind all these posts are real people with real lives and real issues

Now back to a real issue... what the hell am I doing out of bed before 8am when I have a day off!!!!

It's a bit early to start planning this I guess but I think us Seabreeze guys should make a team for Movember. It's a great cause, I've participated the last two years with the blokes from work.

Most people would know about it by now but in case you don't you can find out about it here http://www.movember.com/au/whatismov/07/What-is-Movember
