I only post this because I can't help but notice on the 'At The Movies' site so many bad comments, nearly half. I didn't expect that at all.
http://www.abc.net.au/atthemovies/txt/s2931066.htm

I give it 4.5 stars and would see again, although I followed it just fine.

I also loved Memento, Blade Runner, 2001, am a fan of Primer and have read most of Murakami's novels, so if you like any of those you should like this.

I've got my Gold Class tickets for tonight.

I didn't get Memento... well I could follow it, but I just found it boring.

Saw Mr. Nobody the other night... thought that was OK.

**** WARNING - Possible spoler below, keep reading at own risk ****

Yeah, i saw it the other day, mostly coz i'm big fan of Sci Fi, and DiCaprio usually does good movies. But mostly because the IDMB rating had 9.2 / 10... and that's like ridiculously high score, and even though I take those reviews with a grain of salt, i still had decent expectations. here is what i thought:
- the movie overall was good, but didn't blow me away though and didn't live up to the IMDB 9.2 rating... It was good movie, but just not as good as first Matrix for example...
- commercials for the movie were somewhat deceptive as it had all the special effects in them, yet i didn't think that some of those environmental special effects added much value to the plot, so for me it had a bit of a disconnect there (not completely though). Like, The Matrix plot fully justified all the effects, but this movie IMO was leaning towards drama/thriller a bit, rather than plain old sci-fi...
- in the beginning the movie required so much concentration to grasp the plot and the rules of inception that it gave my (old) brain more strain than entertainment
- THey should have shortened the movie a bit. Almost 2.5 hours was too long for that plot IMO. It gets tiering watching a lot of suspence and complex sci fi plot for 2.5 hours straight.
- The actors and characters were interesting to watch, especially Ellen Page
- If i had a choice again, i'd rather see this one on DVD... so that i could pause to grasp complex dialog scenes, or the ones with Ellen Page

p.s.
and now that i read some comments from the link you posted evlpanda (http://www.abc.net.au/atthemovies/txt/s2931066.htm), i tend to agree with a lot of them ...
the movie in summary: good idea, but just didn't exploit it's full potential...

I found it disappointing and over-rated (the former related to the latter, no doubt) I was really looking forward to it atoo. Nice vfx though.

Haha, see I thought it was a heist film
Everybody seems to see it differently. Some say plot was too easy, others too hard.

I thought to be able to tell such a complicated premise, including a reasonably complicated robbery/espionage, as an action/sci-fi film, and have it completely cohesive all the way through, was mind-blowing.

There's a bit of genuine philosophy too: I don't remember how I got here, do you? Consciousness is really nothing more than layer after layer.

Only critique was that I didn't care if main character died or stayed in limbo forever or never saw his kids, but then you could say it needed a love story too , and so on until you've covered every damn genre.

In retrospect: Whoah, I go on.

And: Who else sometimes writes this much and then changes their minds and deletes it?

Very cool heist: www.abc.net.au/news/2010-07-20/helicopter-heist-caught-on-camera/912188

Well we enjoyed it, but believe it could have been better if the hollywood types had spent more energy on the plot, instead of the car chases etc.
There were a couple of things that didn't ring true to my mind, if you're going into deeper levels of dream state, you can't do that in the dream state, a dream machine that you're dreaming, isn't going to have any effect!

I like the intro when Ariadne was getting introduced to conscious dreaming she could manipulate the dream, with incredible results. But once they got going, nothing like that happened, all those fights and troubles were an ideal opportunity to manipulate the dream, instead of which, the dreams were much to "normal" (apart from the freight train in the middle of the road)

Sorry to drag this back again, but I just saw it - liked it.

Agree with the comments on visuals and plot and no where near as good as Matrix was. But I don't think it was intended to be a visual breakthrough like that.

I think it is more about analysing the plot and what "real"ly happened. There are so many layers and potential "realities" to the film that just keep you thinking. If anyone thinks they know exactly what happened, then I disagree, you only have latched onto one possibility. It is all interpretation.

I note the comment on picking the ending 10mins in. OK, so did I, but I bet my ending was different to yours. So far there seem to be 5-7 real possible plots the film shows. If you think you know, then look again.

There has been a lot of comment on plot holes and lack of development of characters. But - I think that was precisely the point. They were deliberate, to stimulate discussion about which bits were reality and which were dreams. Dreams bend logic and have wooden one dimensional support characters.

One key aspect of the movie to highlight when someone is dreaming you ask "how did I get here? what did I do immediately before being in this place?" Name one scene in the movie that can answer that question?

I would ask - was any frame of that movie reality? if you think so, which bit?

There is of course no definative answer as the movie deliberately never gives a real clue to any of it. But the speculation and discussion and theories is great.

For my two bobs, I was convinced very early on that the whole move was (at the highest level) a 1st level dream and still maintain that interpretation. But there is equally arguments that he ended up in "reality" or "limbo" ....

I am intrigued by the theory that his "totem" was not the spinning top. That was his wifes (Mal). His was his wedding ring. Which he apparently did not wear in what many believe was "reality", but was wearing in established dream layers.
