Yes. They need to put in another antenna.
The problem is, the internet shares the network with the mobile phone service and gets the leftover bandwidth from the phone service.
They can't go interupting a phone call while you download porn etc because holes in a phone conversation are very noticeable.
On the other hand, they are normally not all that noticeable in email downloads etc.
They do become very noticeable when there is no bandwidth left to download anything at all.
Telstra is not the only one with this problem. In fact they are normally one of the better ones.
I was helping someone else with the same problem about a year ago on the Three network, and when I checked the download speed it was 0.6 kilobits per sec. And that was kilobits, not kilobytes.
Considering the old dialups were 56 kilobits /sec, 0.6 kilobits was laughable, only no-one was laughing. It was so slow the email server was locking up and losing emails.
Give them a serve. They deserve it.
But first make sure it works ok somewhere else just in case the problem is with your ipad.

The method mentioned in that article suggests that they will be able to use this on normal fiber, and increase the capacity. Which ultimately means that NBN should be able to upgrade to this technology if needed, when it becomes available. You wouldn't be able to do this with wireless or copper.

Realistically, this sort of speed shouldn't be needed, except where you are running aggregated connections back to a data centre, not for home users. As it is, I doubt NBN will offer speeds even approaching this, just because the need won't be there, and the links to the rest of the world won't handle it.

I think one of the reasons that they wanted to run FTTH was to allow for some growth in speed over fiber... I guess they were right....

I have just renewed my Optus contract with whom I have been for more than ten years.

They supply my land line with unlimited calls to ANY land line or ANY mobile phone within Australia and 500 gb of download at ADSL 2+ speed on a copper line in regional Qld for $105/month.

On my $19/month mobile account they have supplied me with a Nokia C5 hand piece which has a 5 mp camera, integrated GPS with Nokia Maps, a 2 gb micro SD card, is internet capable and includes $70 credit and 100 mb of download per month.

On my $31/month mobile account they have supplied an HTC Desire X hand piece which has more bells and whistles than you can throw a stick at and includes $200 credit and 200 mb download per month.

All up $155/month.

Do Telstra or any other provider have such a deal??

So what exactly is wrong with the Nokia C5 for what it is and not comparing it with later or more expensive technology?? Does it not do what it is supposed to do??

The reception issue is because Telstra owns the infrastructure (it is still a monopoly) and only leases their inferior equipment to their competitors. Telstra is still a rip off company.
