Currently with 3 they have provided me well for the past 4 years and am unsure if i want to change yet am overwhelmed by choice.

Who's got what and who's happy?

With 3 too. Main reason is my wife signed up with them in 2006 when a vendor offered a free Nintendo Wii if she signed to a plan. I was dragged into 3 coz of the free to 3 deal, plus Telstra gives you nothing.

I guess it all depends on what company the people you mainly call are on and if there is some deal that gives you cheaper calls/messages.

3 seem okay to us. Bit expensive if you use the mobile too much.

I've got the N95 8gb on a 49 cap with 3.
Ive had it for about 6months now, and have dropped it, had it in sand, sat on it etc and it still feels solid.
I don't think i'd ever change from 3, mostly because i don't like telstra and optus. And also they are rip offs. Especially telstra.

Interesting topic - I was given 4 weeks notice yesterday (some economic crisis going on apparently) and will lose "my" company mobile (and laptop) and was wondering wether to go a plan or pre-paid. Which is better? Or I was wondering if I could survive without a mobile - I seemed to get by pretty well before they were invented.

FFS whatever you do DON"T LOSE OR STUFF YA PHONE IF WITH 3 NETWORK!!

I was happy with their phones/deals for about 18mths until I dropped it in the rain and rendered it useless. The run around and undelivered promises were unbelievable. 4 weeks to get a phone to me (told it would be 5 working days) then another 2 wks to get the sim that I was assured would be travelling with the phone to me to actually get some use out of it. They needed promting by me to even consider sending the sim too! What good is a freakin phone with no sim?? This was the phone tied to about 50% of my work/business.

I know these days with any tele com mob you will be needing to ingest a good serve of vindahloo to make sense, but seriously the 3 mob's lack of familiarity with english/communication skills/follow up etc were very very shonky.

Very ordinary - jump while you have the chance PR.

^ Lol you dropped your phone in the rain, whilst on a contract and they gave you a new phone. I would expect to have to buy a new one.
When my first phone with them had problems, i went and complained, and they fixed it asap.

Ha ha - fair call - my contract was just about up and they were keen to retain my biz as i had been with them for a fair while. Unfortunately a free phone finally getting activated 6 weeks later sucked the big one so bye bye 3 wee for me.

Why not pull the sim out of the dead phone and use that?

I use Virgin Mobile on a N95 8G- no complaints has the v2v, messaging, Broadband (piggy backs Optus) and use it for my calls to canada as well.

I've always been a fan of caps over pre-paid, some how pre-paid has always cost me more.

If you can get some better deals if you link your phone provider with your your internet provider,

I was with 3, they were ok, heaps cheaper than the others, but when I tried to call them I needed a translater. and their internet has very little coverage.

I went with optus for their mobile broadband, which is good value for money compared to the others, it has good coverage and i got a $10p/m discount, but I pay for it with the phone.

Telstra cost heaps for f all but they have the coverage, I know people that use them just cause they get better coverage in more areas.

If I was going for a phone I would probaly just stick with 3, because they are cheaper and use the telstra network when out of the 3 areas. But for phone and mobile broadband package, I found optus to be the better.

Aww gorsh - I hdnt fort of thet..

Yep - Nebs that was my 1st hope, alas the sim was cactus too as I hadn't realised I had dropped it, and the phone was in the elements for some time. Tried the sim in a workmate's 3 phone and no go Flo.

Sigh... technology makes your life easier (BOOLSH!T!!!)

Ha ha - I have (after trashing 3 fancy phones in less than 2 years) been luvin my OLD grey screen Nokia given to me. No contracts, simple phone and no hassles. OK, I occasionally miss having a camera but all I really want is a phone. The big techy thing it has is an LED light which was super handy at the back of an equipment rack just yesterdee. Love it!

Anyway I am going back to my cave to listen to the broadcasts from fellow ludites on my crystal set...

Ummmm.

Don't Telstra own 51% of 3.
Hutchison Telecoms didn't have the cash to continue, so Telstra stepped in.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Relli i just got a samsung "F480" on a 40 buck telstra plan .It's all touch screen and stuff.
Great camera in it too.
Can even put movies on it to watch on the bus, train, plane etc.
So far i reckon its pretty cool.
Its a bit hard to see in the sun and i don't know how you would use it if you had dirty greasy hands. But i'm a pen pusher so no dramas with that.

Ivegot a TELSTR thing that they call a "cockies phone" has a really loud ring, big buttons and a big aerial. . big thin phone....... great.
But The screen isnt sealed so dust filters in and the screen become unreadable after 6 months. they refused to repair the problem , then a major button started working intermittently , so they replaced the phone in 10 days. now 6 months later the screen is unreadable and the keypad lock is faulty. I reckon in this 2 year plan , I will go through 3 phones!
wish I didnt NEED my mobily

The right pic looks as it needs two hands to operate. How do you text with it then?

I have been with 3 also, plan will be up in June. Missus want t go to Pre-paid, but agree with previous comments, it get more expensive compared to a plan due flag fall and cost per minute being higher.

But 3 coverage roams to Telstra network when out of 3 range, but not as 3G, only GSM.

Reli I know a few people with the Samsung F480 & Omina. They are really happy with them though as the Omina uses windows it is apparently a bit fiddly at the start. I'm currently shopping for a new phone for wife and will probably go with F480, though she is understandably hesitant to go with touchscreen (I had a couple of touch screen motorollas, shattered screens cost a fair bit). Oh the best bit about them is double the battery standby and talk life than almost all of the other phones.

I've currently got a nokia, always have loved (some) nokia's but don't think I will go back to them- battery life same as everyone else now and nokia's stupid small pin charging port is crap, if charging in a car the phones can't be bumped at all otherwise they stop charging (all our nokia work phones and my phone does same thing).

Hey Reli,

I'm with 3 also after wanting to kill Telstra people. Telstra are godawful and their service sucks!

I have a business plan with 3 and it's cheap as chips, currently have three mobiles all on same business plan as well as 3 mobile broadband.

Great phones, great service and I'm glad I can't get service when I'm on holidays in the bush!

If you can get yourself an ABN, you can access the business plans, thats where the real savings are, especially if you use the phone a fair bit ie for business.

If I have a problem, I skirt around 3 and go direct to Nokia service centre, they are pretty excellent. I bought a cheapy phone in case my others go down whilst in the service shop. I just take the sim out and swap it over until I get the other phone back. I can't be without a phone in summer.

3 got me with free phones, free flagfall, 15c/30 sec rate, free to any 3 phone, free bluetooth car kits and free installation, they paid out a big chunk of my contract with Telstra and free phone covers etc. I couldn't refuse. I love 3, I'll never leave after being with Optus and Telstra in the past

Look into it carefully.

Cheers mate,
