Maybe I miss the point, but that is probably because I don't have enough of it to understand, however in life there seems to be more and more absurdity associated with excess cash...here goes.

A friend of mine was telling that her brother is employed by a local council to provide a fee paying service to rate payers of a wealthy beach side Perth suburb to wheel their green rubbish bins out once a week from the side of the house to the front of their house and then back again once the truck has emptied the rubbish from them. For many houses this is a movement of up to a few meters. Oh the intensity of such a chore!

Wondering if there are other intriguing stories like this?

my brother built this house on the south coast of nsw for this cattle baron, who send a covered semi-trailer from one of his properties in outback queensland to the house to deliver.... two cane chairs.... so he could sit on the verandah and watch the sunset (the house faced east in a valley halfway up a mountain, the sun was gone by 3pm)

this dudes missus flew all over the world looking for things to fill this house with... found some ancient (not antique) 400yr old french cathederal doors massive heavy flipping things totally irreplacable.... she wanted them cut up to make kitchen cupboard doors.
one of the chippies working for my brother quit rather than be responsible for the sacrilege of destroying 400yr old timber doors.
but it ended up being done, and the kitchen installed, only for her to turn up in a chopper one day and proclaim that it didn't turn out like she'd hoped and she didn't like it and to tear out the whole kitchen and start again.

the house was never going to be their 'home', it was just something for her to do to keep her occupied..

meanwhile, some families have two incomes and still have to live off vinnies vouchers to make ends meet

I also have dealt with customers like that spend millions on the house & furniture then let the dogs destroy everything . Did my head in .I did a job at St Ives were they moved the pool over 6ft so they could fit in a bigger table & chairs they bought more land from the golf course to do that & as it was a 45deg day the customer asked if i would like a drink & I said yes & he said there's the tap . How I never kicked him in the balls is still a mystery to me they treated everybody like slaves. Yet my parents are well off & some of there friends are really really rich One of them has over 300 car collection all in special temperature & humidity controlled sheds & with some of the rarest cars in the world & employs two mechanics to restore and look after them an yet the wife does her own shopping & cooking & they are heaps more down to earth than some of the would be if they could be that i have to deal with so i suppose it shows that stupidity is not defined by financial status

Money doesnt turn them into knobs. They are knobs from birth. Have a couple of clients like it also.
My way of dealing with them is I just put the prices up on there next job, if they complain I just blame taxes, fuel prices what ever is in the news that week!
If only they knew how much money there mouths have cost them.[}:)]
Im not the only one that puts more onto the job if they fail the attitude test

When you see people like this, keep this in mind.
Eventually, everybody dies. So when they are there, laying on their death beds, do you think they will be spending those final moments thinking about the ancient handcrafted kitchen they had, the cool chopper they once owned or their multi million dollar car collection? I highly doubt it.
Its the memories you make in your life, and the people that shared them. Its not something money can buy.

But yeah, i hate them fookers too. And if i had heaps of money, i would probably buy a whole heap of stupid crap as well.

Late 80's I was working on a mansion as Pt Piper,Sydney. The owner was a very wealthy man who currently owns a string of shopping centres and runs a sporting association - not too hard to guess. As it was a fair walk up the steep driveway to get the paper each morning he had a shute installed to take the morning paper to his front door. At a cost of $40k, although he had a live-in maid and butler. Remember $40k was 23 years ago.

welcome to the goldcoast the more one has, the more stupidly and selfishly one behaves (with the occasional exception)

Do you have his contact details? And does he also do the general rubbish and recycle bins?

I'm guessing the council that this friend's brother works for is Nedlands council, I remember reading some years ago that they were doing this because all councils are liable if someones bin causes an accident.

There are probably too many lawyers on that council, but at least they are providing employment.

I know someone that burnt a $100 bill early one morning because "we won't be needing stuff like this anymore."

He did.
