Hi All
My name is Laura Burrows. I work in Health, Safety & Training (in mining) and live in Brisbane / on the Sunny Coast. I am currently studying Diploma Occupational Health & Safety and have taken on the challenge to voluntarily develop the OHS Management system for the Mooloolaba Marina and Yacht Club from scratch.
The Yacht Club in particular has been involved in court cases regarding the ownership of the building, etc over the last 7-odd years. A new general manager has recently been appointed and as you can imagine, has a massive job ahead of him.
I am calling on all yachties with knowledge of QLD legislation relating to Marinas to help me begin my quest by developing a database of all legislation, standards, etc relevant to Marina's in QLD. I have had a look through the Maritime Safety QLD Acts and Regs, but not much is covered in terms of Marina's specifically. As I have a mining background, I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction or let me know whether all marina rules, etc are developed just from generic acts/regs such as Workplace H&S QLD and Maritime Safety QLD.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I look forward to hear from all the brains of the see!
Laura :)

I thinks a lot of the regulation is handled by the relevent port authority.(State government) The mooloolaba marina was just involved in a legal issue regarding the legality of "live aboards" resolved in favour of the "live aboards". I suggest you write a letter to be published to the "Coastal Passage" a local cruising yachty magazine. This should get you plenty of feedback.
good luck...Richie. (I live on a yacht at Manly Harbour in Brisbane)

How about an industry association? They'd be likely to assist. Dunno about Queensland but the Boating Industry Association in NSW runs a Marina Association. There is a BIAQ in Queensland so it could be worth contacting them to see if they do likewise. If not, they may at least be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your replies. I have found www.marineqld.com.au and www.marinas.net.au. Hopefully the people from there can help me.
Thanks again, Laura
