Hi all,
I'm heading to Mui Ne, Vietnam in mid December through to early in the New Year. Anybody been there and have some good local tips? Good accommodation, side trips, etc?
I am taking a 13 and 9 meter kite for a 132 twin tip. I weigh about 70 kg. Would that cover my bases?
Thanks heaps for any recommendations. Good wind to you all...he heh.

Make sure you take an old toothbrush and lots of soap to scrub
the black oil residue out from between your toes. SERIOUSLY!
Make sure you leave plenty of time to sit back and watch the
Russians parade the best sunburn you have ever seen.
The Viets are really nice people and make the trip, the russians
are really strange people, the mixture makes Mui Ne an absolute
HOOT!

We spent a month in Vietnam in April 08. And Yep, Mui Ne was a great spot.
Lots of good accommodation but be sure to compare prices. If they think you are a russian you will be charged 10 times more!
We stayed in a brand new joint about 2 doors up from Jibes (Windsurf Kite Surf hotel and bar). Can't remember what it was called but it was spotlessly clean with all rooms facing the pool & cost us less than AU$30 a night for double with breakfast. Might have been called 'Sunset hotel' or something like that.
Don't bother with main day trip that is peddled in Mui Ne - the sandhills, fish sauce making, fishing village & waterfalls. It is a total let down and really over the top with kids pushing you to buy stuff along the way.
On the other hand, if you are in Saigon and want to see the Mekong Delta, I can strongly recommend the 2 day tour. It cost us the princely sum of $24pp and included most meals & accomm (we paid an extra $1 to upgrade our room to one with window). I am generally not into 'tours' and would rather do the backpacker thing and go it alone, but we only had a month in Vietnam & had the daughter with us. This tour was so filled with sights & insights that I was really pleasantly surprised.
Another must do is the Cu Chi tunnels if you have any interest in the war history of the region (even if you aren't it is just amazing to see how a whole city of people lived underground!). I think we paid $5pp for a one day trip to Cu Chi.
From Mui Ne a bus runs up to Dalat, the city of all things Kitch! Giant concrete chickens, pedal boats that look like swans (on one of the filthiest lakes I have ever seen), bizarre architecture, amusement parks that look like they haven't changed since the 1950's, and the list goes on. Oh and a really fun toboggan ride that shoots a couple of kms down the side of a mountain (about $1.50 a go).
You are gonna love it!
