Has anyone seen the "Inside Cover" on todays West Australia (I believe the story got a run in The Age and Sydney Morning Herald, and is sparking questions worldwide)

The picture taken from Google Earth purports to show a flying car.

Its planely obvious, its a bloody KITESURFER.

theres so many of the buggers you can see them from space now.

Sounds more plausible than anything else, although when you check out the actual site:

www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/25/flying_car_launch_site/

it seems pretty full of trees to be launching a kite imo...

Anyone kite there? Is that your normal launching spot?

Nebbian you are right it is full of trees, but that is the river on the left of the picture.

Probably a learner being taught.

Looks like 2 cars to me... one black... very balck

On the other hand, the poms have not yet figured out that half a squizzillion GBs fit into WA, so of course we were going to come up with the flying car first

The object is too close to the shadow (ie too low/close to the ground) to be a kite. A rather dangerous place to launch if you ask me.
My theory - it is a banner temporarily mounted between 2 poles. The poles are too small to see clearly in the image. This explains why the object is no longer there.

yeah, I had a good look at Nebbians link (some pretty funny stuff there - geez people are freaks) and I think the best explanation is that it is a shade tent, or a tarpaulin set up as some shade.

Almost right there grumples. It was DISCOVERED by a bloody kitesurfer.

There are now over 10,000 pages on this phenomenon now, most of them are forums and news sites, but a few UFO spotting and urban legends sites have jumped on the bandwagon now.

Ok, time to come clean.....

I was checking out some local spots on Google Earth on a low wind Sunday morning about 3 weeks ago and I saw the car near Point Walter. I'm a regular reader of The Register so I know they love flying car conspiracies and anything to do with Google Earth, so I put 2 and 2 together and sent them a placemarker file and they wrote it up. I thought maybe a few mates would see it and ask me about it, but I never expected THIS MUCH publicity, least of all an interview by The West!!!!! (must have been a seriously slow news week).

So now you know.
Cheers
