This morning I decided to download a speaking/typing software program that allows me to talk into the microphone and it types as I go.

I absolutely love it. I just thought I would share this with you as you might find this handy at one point in time or another.

I am writing my previous two weeks reflection on every single lesson I have taught with my year seven class, and have found only 1 1/2 weeks into my reflections I am already at 5800 words, and the last 3500 were typed using this. Of course, you have to go back, reread, and edit what you wrote, and some of it is not correctly punctuated or typed; but isn't it better to have your ideas on paper, rather than lost!? *Just a thought*.

However, I think a lot faster than I can type, and by the time I typed one thing I have usually forgotten my other train of thought; So this program is amazing for me.

We use digital dictation at work and it is great. I have to go back and double check stuff but my job would be so painful without it. I can type 65-70 words per minute but the digital dictation is a huge timesaver.

I have the same digital dictation set-up at home (however I don't use it too much)

Lizzy,

how long did it take you to train the software; the earlier version were laborious to teach how to understand your speech... but then I might be a mumbler?

Mick.

The funniest thing I ever saw was one of my English reps trying to teach the voice recognition on his phone.

Spoke nice and clearly but after an hour the phone still wasn't recognising him say "Office"

Nor did it understand

"For F==k sake I'm going to through this piece of s++t out the F==king window"

Nokia's do bounce

After I stopped laughing I had to ask him not to use the speech recog any more

A friend of mine has the opposite program, it converts the written word into speech. He's blind.
It's amazing, but would take a bit of getting used to, as it also mentions commas, new pragraph, bold, unbold etc.
He teaches computer literacy to blind children. Nowadays we only keep in touch via email.
