I've never been overpaid, but whenever I 'hear' (usually from Chinese whispers) of people getting over paid, the boss/money handling people find out, and the money is paid back.

I guess if the boss okays it, it is all good.

Maybe it is their 'honesty' detector, and the misses has just passed it by letting the boss know.

Waaay back fifteen years ago I got paid double one month so I just stuck it in a savings account and picked up the interest. Four months later, payroll realised they'd double-paid and asked me about it...I feigned any knowledge of it and said I'd have to check my bank statements. A few days later I said "Oh, you were right. I hadn't noticed. Here's a cheque for the amount you overpaid me."

Never heard another word about it. Payroll were probably relieved to have fixed their stuff-up without a drama.

A shame it wasn't enough to retire to Maui, otherwise I doubt they'd have found me!

A couple of years ago I was double paid because of a stuff up by my employer's bank, Westpac. Everyone was double paid and so were employees from many other companies using Westpac for their payroll.

Unfortunately the overpayment was pulled out a few days later. If I was smart I would chucked it off my mortgate and then agreed to pay a nominal amount say $100 a week off till the overpayment was paid back. Unfortunately I'm not smart.

Many years ago my first job was part time night fill at a major supermarket (starting with W). The night fill boss would (illegally) sign our time sheets instead of getting us to sign them. (we were all teenagers at the time and didn't know our rights). The boss would always sign us off early, ie at 11pm would announce, "you are all signed off for 11:30", this would be done with the full knowledge that there was no way we could finish by that time. We would work our butts off for the next hour plus and be underpaid for our efforts.
After many months of regular work I took a week off (unpaid).
It seems they continued to sign my time sheets while I was away.
The following week one of the bosses said to me, "don't you want your pay?" For once in my life my brain was faster than my mouth and I replied, "didn't I pick it up?" (these were the days of cash payments, folding stuff & coins).
He handed me the pay packet and then went through the entire store, telling all the staff what an idiot I was because I didn't pick up my pay and had forgotten it.
I quitely worked away, happy that some of the unpaid extra hours had now been paid....

It might be paid fortnightly, one week in arrears and one week in advance.
See what's paid next time and it might all become clear.... as mud.

I find it strange that anyone would want to pay someone in advance for something they haven't done. If a person was to do a runner, then the company would be out of pocket.

(Get paid on the 16th of evey month)

Companies like to do as it naturally saves the business resources.

It also makes less work when it comes to accrueing for payroll liabilities (as they wont exist if your on salary)

The bad news is getting paid once a month....

I've been paid this way for the last 10 years, across 4 different companies. I just thought it was normal.
