When is the power in charge going to take responsibility and evict the drunks protesters from the island???? Have you had a look lately??? I am driving in front of it daily (very slowly) and it now looks like a rubbish dump! Good advertising for Perth!

just put massive concrete walls around it and cover the road so we can traverse the island without having to see it . Island is an eyesore anyway .

I think i'm in a minority with this.

I think the protesters are great. They dont agree and they are protesting. There should be more of it in this piss weak country.

I always use the example of Bolivia where the bus fares were increased by an eqivilent of about 5 cents. As such people went ballistic and there were riots all over the shop. People were pissed off and happy to show it. The bus fare went down.

Here electricity goes up 200% and the general population have a winge on 6PR or 720 and thats the end of it. The apathy is overwhelming

Whether you agree or disagree with the cause making your voice heard has got to be a good thing

Bunch of minority, of a minority group squealing like buggery just to make some noise. Pfft, have heard worse at Big Day out Claremont showgrounds.

However.... I do agree there should be more of it, but piss weak country, nar you got some shag on the eyeball there.

P.R you are off track. Anyone has a lawful right to protest, they've exercised it and it has been heard.

However you cannot just camp anywhere.

If I park a van in the middle of the carpark at a nice surf break can I live in it and claim I am protesting about something? No, the Council will remove me. And rightly so - I can't just claim I am protesting and set up camp.

It is disgraceful that they claim racism when told to leave as same rule applies to all.

You should go there and say something.

Make sure you attach a gopro to your head with a firm headband, so the footage isn't all wobbly; and test that the audio is all good.

Please post the video confrontation on seabreeze?

if your protest has validity (example, raw toxins dumped at pristine site, blind eye turned by council, done by fee avoiding lauded multi national corporation), I'll stand by your right to occupancy, empty your poo bucket and fund you a meal a week.

if you are a part of a decimated spiritual culture, and are shunning all aspects of the society destroying your right to life, i will champion your cause..

if you wanna pool your pension for red cans, abuse peaceful citzens in their daily right to persue their life, break into my car causing 800 dollar damage to steal a few gold coins, stand out the front of a shopping centre on a two day bender and expose yourself to school kids and scream racism when challenged...

you can go and collectively phuck yourself

can't claim soveriegnty when sucking on land money

The Indos know how to protest. Fuel goes from 4500 Rupes to 6000 Rupes and they are all on the street.

Yesterday was pretty busy. Next week will be a bit more so.

Care if you are over there.

There's a very similar situation here in Portland. 2 days after the 'Tent embassy' fiasco with Rullard, a local elder set up camp on the local town green, a patch of garden in the centre of town & claimed that she was setting up a new tent embassy (which 'apparently' has nothing to do with the Canberra one or the recent media hype).

About 2 months on and the site has turned from a simple campsite protest into a junkyard...2 caravans, a portaloo, multiple tents (one of which looks more like a Native-American wigwam) large signboards erected that scream "RACISTS", open fires, piles of wood & timber to burn (including full lengths of treated pine & LVLs apparently 'sourced' from a local building site...so I heard a couple of days ago). The elder has written to the local paper calling "all" locals racists, stating that this town is the "most racist city in Australia" and screams abuse at passing motorists & pedestrians!

The local mayor has tried to diffuse the situation and reactions of locals by calling the 'eyesore' a "right by the original owners of this land..." and "we need to be sensitive to the cultural differences..." etc. To this day, I still have no idea how they haven't been evicted or moved on. The fact that it's allowed to stay is causing tension & some fairly strong comments from locals (most of which haven't a racist bone in their body).

I don't claim myself a racist, and although I'm all for equality and also believe that all Aussies deserve the right to protest, I also believe that we need to protect the Aboriginal culture & history, as we should with all cultures...however I don't believe in allowing the law to be broken because of the colour of one's skin...or defacing and vandalising a central CBD public reserve, causing potential negative tourism issues which affect a small city's economy (especially in the current climate) and creating public tension all in the name of cultural rights.

I agree with the right to protest!
Problem 1: they do not even know what they are protesting about 'cause they have a higher alcohol reading than QI level.
Problem 2: it is cool to protest but do not tiss ppl off by making them 1/2 hour late to work every day.... it is counter productive
Problem 3: protesting in the wrong spot..... Build your slump consulate in the minister in charge front yard ( guess that would not be tolerated for long )

I do love the way the barnetts mob goes up north and shafts the locals , but when they get upset on his doorstep , he handballs it to the local council, and dissapears.
i am confused about how they are claiming soverenty over a man made island that dates back to dredging spoil in 1842

George Arthur would not have tolerated such nonsense in the good old days.... Herrison Island would have been cleared up quick smart.

Anyone read our colonial history and come across 'The Black War' 1820's-1830??? And subsequently 'The Black Line'?

Before anyone comments I'm racist, I'm merely quoting past history....

The protestors "were alleged" to be shouting whitecknuts and such like, thats why i mentioned two way rascism, also the fact as the whitest boy alive i have been on the end of it myself

I like all good people including the french, also when they dont like something they go nuts, we just go she b right, essentially i think we are all pretty lazy and just accept whats handed out by clown politicians, far to easily

the black war didnt stop in 1830- it was going on full pelt well into the 1900's.
My grandfathers diaries of his police service- and those of other family members- in our Northwest have a lot of detailed and tragic notes of "punitive expeditions" they were ordered to participate in.
The aboriginals of W.A. (and not forgetting the rest of Australia) have plenty to protest about after what we inflicted upon them. Someplace in our constitution, there is supposed to be a percentage of our revenue set aside for the betterment of our native population. As far as I know, we have ignored that bit of fine print since before the ink dried on the constitution.

Let them protest all they want- as long as they comply with the same rules I would have to stick to.
Arrive in the morning- protest all day- pack up at sundown and go home, go back next day. leave the area clean and tidy. dont upset the people who you want on your side. you wont get support or sympathy from anyone you insult, upset, especially if you endanger their property or family.

If you refuse to be part of our society, support yourselves and dont expect or demand handouts from those you are insulting, upsetting, disrupting, or causing injury to.

respect is something earned- not given upon demand.

stephen.
