So let me get this straight: 59% of queenslanders want daylight saving.

But she's going with the minority.

I love democracy!

Most of the Article with a few key points highlighted

Surveys by ACNielsen Research of 1000 residents and 600 businesses, commissioned by former premier Peter Beattie, found 59 per cent in favour of daylight saving statewide.

However, just 36 per cent of respondents outside the state's southeast corner supported daylight saving.

The Northern Territory is the only state or territory other than Queensland that rejects daylight saving, although the issue is as controversial in Western Australia as it is in Queensland.

Western Australia began a three-year trial of daylight saving last December. The Carpenter Government has promised a referendum in 2009 to determine if it becomes permanent.

Ms Bligh said the new survey showed a surprisingly low 33 per cent of Queenslanders supported introducing daylight saving only in the state's south-east. "These findings indicate people do not support a split time zone because it would create division within the community," she said.

Ms Bligh said she personally favoured daylight saving, but she had to take into account its unpopularity outside the southeast corner, where 69 per cent of survey respondents wanted the time change.

"You've only got to drive 200km north from the NSW border before support starts slipping away," she said. "We have to govern for all 2500km of the Queensland coast and for western Queensland. We have some of the hottest and most remote places on earth in Queensland ... People have not reached their view on daylight saving because they are stupid or redneck or backward."

Ms Bligh's decision is a bonus for federal Labor leader Kevin Rudd as it removes the possibility of daylight saving becoming a problem for the ALP during the federal election campaign.

Opposition Leader Jeff Seeney welcomed Ms Bligh's announcement."People in north Queensland and people in western Queensland are every bit as important as people on the Gold Coast," Mr Seeney said.

Farmers also welcomed the decision. Agforce chief executive Brett Dehay said: "Everyone makes jokes about faded curtains and milking cows but this is about our businesses and our families."

The business community said it would continue lobbying for change.

Daylight saving in Queensland was rejected in a 1992 referendum, when 55 per cent voted not to wind the clocks forward an hour in summer.

Gotta love Qld politics.

Anyway, the curtains will fade quicker if we introduce daylight saving and, after all, not everyone can afford new curtains.

Also the cows in North Qld won't know when to be milked... Just kidding!!

I think that perhaps Jeff Seeney and I have different ideas of what "equal" means

I love Daylight savings arguments[}:)][}:)] theres a hint there

59 per cent in favour of daylight saving statewide

That means that they didn't want Qld in 2 different time zones as supported in

Ms Bligh said the new survey showed a surprisingly low 33 per cent of Queenslanders supported introducing daylight saving only in the state's south-east. "These findings indicate people do not support a split time zone because it would create division within the community," she said.

Now note that I say this with my tongue very firmly planted in cheek here when I type this next bit very slowly.[}:)][}:)]

Why should 1 hour make such a difference when Qld is 20 years behind the rest anyway.

Now you can guess where I am going for my holidays at the end of the week?
I'll be the stupid looking W-Aussie running for cover with a target on his shirt.

Hey Elmo,

Thanks for typing slow - with my Qld edumucation, I can't read very fast. Also, the liquid paper on the laptop screen from correcting my typo's makes it hard to read.

Sorry to point it out but even with daylight savings, you west australians are still 1 hour behind QLD.

I know - but I just had to bite

Have a nice holiday!

I think if you do a statistical analyses of all the detailed accounts of successful transactions, the greater number of supplicants were wearing simple cloth robes, or maybe just loincloths.

mmm, my opinion, now Im working again is, I would rather go for a surf at 5.30am before work, with daylight savings there is no daylight between sun up and going to work, so its a big fat no for me!! I hate not seeing the sun before work all winter, so its nice in summer to be able to go for a surf, go to work, if its windy I can still go for a sail after 3pm when I knock off.

Tradesmen in qld on construction sites and bigger projects generally work 6 or 7am till 2 or 3pm, great hours without daylight savings.

But thats my opinion, so whenever we were apparently asked for a yes or no vote, I would say no. I can hear the office johnnies booing me already!

Daylight savings can bite my bum!! These wallies that think we need more daylight hours in summer are not thinking straight.... how about doing it in winter, when it gets dark at 5! Plus having kids up till 9pm when they normally go to bed at 630 is enough to send anyone insane! Plus I thought we did vote on it not that long ago and the majority was no????? Fat lot of good it was if you voted.
