Random tides in Perth?

Hi brains trust,

Having lived in WA for 16 years, I have always wondered why the tides seem so ad hoc. Growing up surfing in QLD, we had roughly 4 tides a day, 6 1/4 hours apart.

Can anyone tell me why it's so random in Perth? Sometimes only one tide per day......WTF

Most parts of the world have a semi diurnal tide.which is 1high every 12ish hours.

Perth however has a diurnal tide, which is one high/day. Not sure why, but it is probably some complicated physics thing. Or a conspiracy...

Maybe so you can't tell if a tsunami is coming. Oops sorry forget on BOM the photo/picture/diagram shows we aren't in the tsunami watch area so we couldn't possibly get a tsunami.

Maybe so you can't tell if a tsunami is coming. Oops sorry forget on BOM the photo/picture/diagram shows we aren't in the tsunami watch area so we couldn't possibly get a tsunami.


I'm pretty sure Perth is relatively safe from earthquake tsunamis due to its location and the shape of the ocean floor.

This little pdf is a bit of a summary of a preso I went to, but can't seem to find the main powerpoint.

I read that some campers in Sharks bay almost lost their lives. Was thinking the other day that Mandurah would get taken out by a tidal surge. When next is that thing that happens with the moon and high tides?

Spring (Leap) tide. it will occur in spring. Not sure exactly when.

How about that!

There two highs trying to get through on saturday though. Maybe a resonant slosh in the Indian Ocean filters or blurs them out.
