Well, I'm here in Dubai at the moment but only here for a short stop over. I was told by the Air Hostee that "Kitebeach" is the place to go. Apparently a Shiekh's son loved kiteboarding so he built an area to accomodate it. It's also a more relaxed place to be with the dress code I am told unlike more touristy higher profile beaches.

Been there a few times, only heavy longboards for hire at beach club resorts that I have found, the only time I have seen wind there is in the middle of winter and the air is full of sand at the same time. There are sailboats for hire at a few places too.

After being here for a few days I'm not sure I'd bother with the hire gear. The wind while I have been here have been cross on shore at about 10 knots and hot.
Unless you have got at least two to three weeks here you will find far too many other things to do, skidiving, snow boarding (Mall of the Emirates) shopping (the malls are MASSIVE) sightseeing, laying in the pool etc etc etc.
