Depends on where you're diving..

They're worth the $$ if your diving in murky rivers etc (not sure why you would be, unless you were working!). Diving anywhere else I'd say they're not worth wasting the time.

I saw a video of the early models being tested, they worked well unless the shark was in a feeding frenzy - so might not work that well when spearing?

We've been through the stats before in here - you're not special - sharks aren't going to hunt you down!

It's for me...after diving for years, I am now Sh@t scared of sharks.
To much media hipe in Perth over the last 2 years..
I just have one because it makes me feel like it will save me..
For me it's mind over matter...and if wearing a shark shield can keep me diving that has to be a good thing

And the other divers we some times dive with will wear them in what they think are shark infested waters

Shark shields are excellent for repelling fellow divers!

I've had sharks around whilst spearing, bronzies, tigers and reefies.. they were only ever interested in the fish.

I've heard stories about the shields repelling bull sharks and other whalers but
if you get a monster fish turning up on your dive, your sharkshield won't stop you making a mess of your wetsuit..

Personally I wouldn't bother, but if it gives you peace of mind so you can enjoy your sports then it's probably worth the money.

ps - spearing is heaps more fun without scuba kit.. couldn't believe it when I moved over here and found it was legal!

If I was cruising around sussing out who is in my territory and i got electrocuted...id be pissed offf.
Its people with shark shields that sharks come back and hunt for when they dont wear it later on.
Which brings to mind those in the water without a shield later on in the day or even week..what about them.
personally i would not want to be around some one who is antagonising a shark with electric shocks.
If you dont like the look of em dont hang around...its not your ocean anyway.

WT? Where did you come from where spearing on SCUBA was legal? It'd take all the challenge out of the sport... can you fish via dynamite there too?

I've never speared on supplied air, and even though it's legal over here in WA, I still wouldn't. I personally feel that it's like cheating and part of me feels like it should be outlawed... (you can take crays on air too but only with a snare or by hand).

My comment was an attempt to encourage WA spearfishermen to go without the tanks whilst refraining from labelling anyone as a "cheat"
