A huge amount of work has been done to organise a world class skate park to be built in fremantle on the esplanade.

Recently a No vote scare campaign has been launched to sabotage the park. The final vote is this wednesday the 24th of april at 5.45 pm in the Fremantle Town Hall. This is regarded as the last chance to have a world class park built and if it gets up will certainly open the door for other parks of this nature around the city.

Hope to see you there.

Hate to throw a damp soggy smell at the idea.
Other than the show pony segment portrayed on media, “Oh look at me, I am so good” syndrome, these places are the biggest breeding ground for juvenile crime and rampant with young people peddling crap to mates at same age.
Ask any local cop, off the record.

Exactly why its a great idea!! All the graffa's, 15 yo skanks and other juvenile dead beats can go hang out in freo and leave us in the suburbs alone :D

No way in hell would i want one opening up within a couple of kms of my house.

Schools and shopping centres are just as bad as the local skate parks at becoming juvenile crime breeding grounds. Atleast when they are at the park you can see them, and they are not getting into any trouble.

Great Idea I say.

When i lived in my old place i took my dog training at a place with a skate park. Saw fights, kids (like 13-15) drinking and smoking, people doing grafiti, smashing glass bottles etc.

People might want a world class skate park at the end of a train line but its going to attract plenty of world class dickheads. Its no wonder the residents don't want it.

Big skate park just built in Ocean Reef and i its always packed. Often you will see the Joondalup Council Youth bus parked there, playing music and interacting with the kids. Looks good to me.

Small skate park in Mindarie/Clarkson and my son would love to hang out there, so i used to spend many hours watching the kids interact. Usually there were fine, until a few girls would turn up. Then the attitudes changed

Can anyone turn up and vote Beastsurf

Anyone can turn up and voice their opinion however my understanding is that it is the council reps that are making the final vote.

I hear the points raised about the anti social behavior. I spend a lot of time at skate parks and am of the opinion that the more sheltered and hidden away the park the more likely you are to have young crew act badly or as it seems to me attract the bad ellement. Put it in a high profile area with plenty of foot traffic open space families adults and a pecking order and the place runs itself.

Skate parks are full of fit young crew with a bit of of an edge. The scene reminds me of how surfing was looked at in the old days. I would not like one over the fence from me thats why places like the esplanade at Fremantle are perfect.

Skate boarding Is a fantastic for surf training and general fitness.

I bet we all have had a winge about boring old perth at one time or another.Well here is a real chance to liven up a dead bit of town and inject it with young crew and families.

Similar here, there is a small skate park near us- opposite Alexander Heights shopping centre, realistically it needs to be lots bigger and more challenging for the kids- but its better than nothing I suppose.
Used to be a BIG BOOM BOX BUS thingo turn up regular, from the YMCA? or the council?- not really sure who, with video games on board, music, giveaways etc, havent seen it for a while though.
And you are right about the girls....everything goes pear shaped when they turn up [its always thier fault]

Kids are always going to meet up somewhere- I would rather it be out in the open than hidden away somewhere, or vegetating in front of a twittery face page.

I say give the kids a decent skate park, with good shelter from wind, rain and sun, good lighting, well maintained and wider than normal pathways for access, within cooee of a chicken treat/HJ's/Maccas etc.
Plan it properly, build it well!

stephen.

Hey crew. It seems you can vote at the meeting. 250 against rocked up tonight at the anti park meeting. The kids need all the support they can get for the park. Fingers crossed.

Thanks JB. There was a ground swell of support and a lot of people put a huge effort in. We have started the ball or wheel rolling, with the town of Stirling.

Indeed they are.
I once saw a barefooted hippy walking her Doc Martins on a dog leash down south terrace.
