Brows the smh site this morning covering the young girl in North Sydney with a bomb hoax strapped to her neck...Call me what you will, but it appeared v.strange how the articles for the 'hoax' quickly turned into advertisements for her fathers software company complete with links and screen shots of the 'new' products...

So which bit is the hoax?

On the one hand, stuff like this happens for real all the time overseas in other countries, frequently with less happy outcomes, so we should be thankful for where we live.

On the other hand, some of the media messages, and what they have chosen to focus on is "interesting" to say the least.

You would have thought it pretty sensible to not put a bloody word of any of this in to the media so as not to encourage copy-cat incidents. But then again maybe I'm just a cynic...

I think it would be pretty hard to keep quiet given the police opted to play it safe and clear out half the street. The deputy commissioner was giving media briefings and was rightfully being very choosy about what he would or would not discuss.

yeah, it's got me hooked - just watched some of the coverage, i'd think that the daughter had a movie coming out, scripted responses - beautiful photo's - v.calm father. If it were me i'd think i would be a little more flustered

From nine msn -

Four men strapped an explosive belt to a cash transport driver and forced him to empty a string of cash machines, a French newspaper reports.

The incident was the third of its kind in the Paris region in recent months, Le Parisien du Dimanche said.

The perpetrators rammed the cash delivery vehicle with their car on Saturday. When the driver emerged from the van, they forced an explosive belt onto him.

For the following hour, they made the driver continue his route but had him empty the cash machines he was supposed to be topping up.

The men remain on the run on Sunday.

Investigators said the explosive belt may have been a fake, and that similar recent events were probably not carried out by the same gang.

"The robbers may have been inspired by recent events," a police union representative told the newspaper.

On Monday, two men were arrested after fixing an explosive belt to a cash transporter, demanding 600,000 euros ($A813,000), while a gang escaped with 250,000 euros in a similar heist in mid-July.

Last week in Sydney, a fake explosive device was strapped around the neck of the 18-year-old daughter of a wealthy family in an apparent attempt at extortion. The perpetrator has not been found.

^^^ Only if the perpetrator has been picked up for something else in the past, or if you are one of the "suspects".

It's not like they are going to fingerprint every child at the school (which they probably should).

A shoe box and a bike chain eh? Sounds like amateur hour...
