Yes - Got to feel for Peter and the family having to deal with Jeremy and his Schizophrenia. Love the Sunnyboys too and Trouble in my Brain makes so much more sense now after watching last night. Surprised to learn Jeremy was Oz schoolboy surfing champion too.

PS - how good is this second series of Luther (before Sunnyboy doco) - the brits and their TV drama have daylight coming second to them.

The program was particularly poignant as I knew Jeremy had some major issues in his late 20's. I also had a number of close male friends who had become schizophrenic, or suffered some sort of mental breakdown, in their mid to late 20's and as a result I lost contact with them - as they became too erratic for me to deal with. They were also highly intelligent and driven in their youth.

I know one of them struggled for twenty years and committed suicide in his mid 40's and I still wonder what happened to the other one, he certainly wasn't in a good place when I last saw him. The other thing I saw in common with Jeremy and my friends was the excessive alcohol and drug use. I never really was able to work out if it was the substances that tipped them over or if it was their mental state that was causing them to self medicate.

I'm not sure if it was just me, but I did seem to have a disportionate amount of friends who suffered from this.

A lot of the problems his family went through in the docco, I'm sure my friends family went through also. The program just gave me a better insight into the plight the families and how they cope with such a dreadful disorder.
