Today we had an issue at work. One of clients noticed some text on their rather extensive website and suggested that they must have been hacked recently and wanted to know when they were hacked and by whom - as they would have never have authorized this text they found.

After scouring our records at work and looking at the last modified date of the page I saw the addition was made on or prior to July 2009 and it had been that way ever since.

Then I remembered this website that you can look at past copies of websites and software etc that goes back as far as 1996. By typing the url of the site into the "way back machine" I worked out that this offending text was added to our clients website between Oct 2008 and Nov 2008.

The good thing was I had rediscovered this interesting tool. I just tried to look up what seabreeze used to look like but it didn't find it. But plenty of other sites worked just fine.

If you are looking for 10 mins or more that you will never want to get back give it a shot.
